Re: small, quiet mini-ITX gaming build

Re: small, quiet mini-ITX gaming build
alright, cooler installed, and it wasn't easy to do so because the screws had to be mounted from the bottom, while the cooler was on top. this requires some dexterity to get and even mount with the TIM here's a few shots from different angles. the cooler can only be installed in two different orient...

here's the case after cutting out the slot for the fan. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v288/WhiteFireDragon/SFF%20computers/P1010592.jpg cleaned up the edges of the cut and test-fitted the fan on there http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v288/WhiteFireDragon/SFF%20computers/P1010594.jpg plastic bar...

Re: small, quiet mini-ITX gaming build
1) i don't need the little case speakers that beep on boot up or when there's a problem, so i took it out so there's less cables to manage, and to also provide a small additional front ventilation. the speaker wires were attached to the rest, so i had to "peel" it from the other wires. 2) this area ...

RE: "noctua fan pointing directly at the heatsink" Where does the air from the noctua fan pointing directly at the video card heat sink go? Does it add to the heat load for the cpu? What are the temps when the fan blows the video card heat out the back? i measured the temps a few days ago with the ...

also, a bit more powerful: http://news.mydrivers.com/1/188/188813.htm single slot and no need for PCI-E power connector. that's great and all, but i can't find that card in the US. second, my 150w PSU will not be able to drive that card with my i7-2600k already in there. and last is more important,...

Re: small, quiet mini-ITX gaming build
Nice. I think SC2 only uses 2 cores, so that probably helps out the CPU temps. What framerates are you getting and at what settings/resolution? i get 82 FPS average at full 1920x1080 res on medium settings. i hardly saw any difference between medium and high settings, but there's huge differences b...

this is still a work in progress , which i'll be updating frequently. i wanted something ultra portable and powerful since i travel between my apartment and house frequently. laptops just don't cut it for me because they're not powerful enough, can't build them, and screens are too small. i built th...

giant Scythe Susanoo for passive cooling
i was going to get the thermalright HR-02 for passive cooling, but now i'm considering this scythe susanoo for passive cooling. because of the sheer size of this thing, i would guess that it might do better than the HR-02. if clearance is not an issue, then would there be any reason to go for the HR...

Re: Fractal XL, OC 2600K, Fan Recommendation
i personally think that you should run the CPU at 4.4ghz -4.5ghz and lower the voltage. that's only about a 4% decrease in clock speeds, and it'll give you room to decrease the vcore, which can have some impact on heat and power

Re: New Silent PC/Part Gaming-, 3D Modeling and Programming
WD black are one of the louder hard drives. you can consider samsung F3 as an alternative, more quite and speed difference is pretty negligible. i personally can't stand clicking noises from a hard drive and i've been too spoiled by SSDs. they make zero noise, lower power consumption, can hide them ...

gigabyte has a HD5770 that's passively cooled, this is what i was going to get in my build, but a few people recommended to get a very low rpm fan on it.

36 watts? Yuck. Why not get a more modern card? yup, looks like you misread it. 36w is total system draw, not the video card. i think that 36w is pretty amazing for an i7 system Looks like my expectations were just not consistent with real life test results. well u learn something new every day :wi...

Re: Cooler Master Elite 100 Sandy Bridge Modded Build Comple
great build! do you have any pics of it? i'll be doing something similar, except it'll be a semi-gaming computer with an i7-2600k and a gt240 video card, all in a mini-ITX case/motherboard using a picoPSU 150w. intel mobos are extremely efficient at stock, but i don't think it has any undervolting o...

and thank you , since i was looking at that same motherboard/cpu and wondering if i'd be able to underclock. :D i wonder though, could you grab some quick power numbers without the gt240? i didn't underclock it, it kept it at stock speeds, so it still downclocked during idle and ran at 3.7ghz in tu...

Re: Fractal Design Mini build plans
hi, thank you for the post. i'm in north america, so i guess if it's already released in europe, it shouldn't be long for US shops to carry it. as for cooling, these new i7's don't run that hot, and i was debating between the silver arrow or the HR-02, which several reviews said it successfully cool...

hi guys, i did some research before my first post here, and i need some feedback before i start ordering/building. i'll start off with my plans, then just a few final questions. planned hardware: - intel i7-2600k , with passive thermalright silver arrow - asus P8P67-M Pro (or a Z68 variant when they...
