Typically there's a little space between Mobo and whatewver drives-and you cound do a homebuilt bracket to mount a fan. A low rpm (800 rpm?) 120 would be quiet and should give enough added cooling. NF4 was a nice chipset but Nvidia screwed up not doing a hi-tech heatpipe HS for it...so you get the n...

I'd be concerned about the lifespan of the CPU if it's hitting 70C peaks. With the case exhaust and duct fan extracting...you may be a bit restricted on your inlets. If you can duct even some cooler room air to the inboard side of the CPU heatsink you should get some temp drop. Maybe a couple of pie...

Took another look..... Seems you can put some feet on this to get 1-1 1/2" bottom clearance. You then cut....mount a 120 on the floor...and concoct a duct from there to the Vid card. 1 fan ducting directly outside should do more good than 2 just moving air around inside. Another option would be to b...

Is that CPU overclocked? Seems a bit lower temps should result from a stock CPU and a 2 fan Ninja. While the setup for the vid card may extract the heat from the GPU....I'm not seeing the CPU + GPU heat getting out of the case quite quick enough,so the effect is that too much of the heated air is ge...

If you plan to built a lot of these....do a couple of great designs..build prototypes....then get some good woodworking gear, like a radial arm saw or table saw and probably a router. Hunt around for some good "Parts" like switches,a panel-like you mentioned-for USB etc, sheetmetal or? for mounting yo...

I'd have done the wood first. Wood that's 1/2" x 6"...really isn't. Then the cuts have to allow for the thickness of the blade. A circular saw cuts faster straighter. You C clamp a straight edge-or at least a straight piece of wood in place so the base of the saw follows it. Metal window screening i...

rather like Artic's ideas, their HDD setup is the best so far. They are one of a very few who include a high grade PSU with active PFC. They are one of even fewer to not have any front fan,and to creatively use the base/floor for intake (and PSU exhaust too) They also pretty much twist around the usu...

And this is with a proc with a TDP of 65W, not 95W (or higher) with your Q6600 EDIT: Oh, I forgot to mention that my proc's stock speed is 2GHz, so my O/C is 45%, so your goi...

Yep, Socket 754 is another option, but one I wouldn't consider buying today if your are going to buy a mobo+CPU unless you never plan on upgrading it - You are stuck with single-core CPUs on that socket. True...still...a better option than hunting down a socket A board and CPU.....and I rather LIKE...

Would the cheaper 945 chipset do just as well as the higher-end chipsets, or would I see a performance gain by going the way of the P35 or 965, or even the 865? Hi, The chipset has little to do with performance. So any chipset would work. Now, as for what's best for you is a different story. 865 is...

Fortron Source 300W PSU it has 82% efficiency, so it's definitely good. as for case, i dunno, something small is fine, i'd say an HTPC is overkill for this. something small and cheap is fine, having at least 1 120mm fan would be great. a fanless or at least good heatpipe cooler for this would be th...

Very strange. The shrink to 65 nm has to result in less watts and less heat for a Chip that otherwise is pretty similar. Very little gain seems evident. I'm guessing there may be some bios/motherboard factor that's not letting the Sparta get it's best result----and if that's the case-maybe a week-or...

The smaller hub seems to allow a bit more airflow than normal for a low rpm,and 500 rpm without extra $ / hassle to undervolt is also REAL neat. Note the CFM on the 800 rpm. It's about what you usually get from 1000-1200 rpm. There's no details on the "sleeve bearing",and there's quite a range of qu...

After some experimentation, I believe the following: Temp 1: Northbridge Temp 2: System Temp Temp 3: CPU temp, measured by the mobo Core : CPU temp from the proc NOTE: I had to add 10°C to the Core temp to bring it in line with the value for Temp 3 and the temp from the BIOS screen. I have not done any tests but I'd think a thin layer of sheet metal, even basic window screen or aluminum foil-if grounded can make a wood or plastic "sandwich" structure have good EMI screening. The Cosmos looks like a nice case. Seems bigger which could help airflow. A few tweaks might make it even better. Since it comes with decent 1200 RPM fans-I probably would not bother to buy a set of 1100 rpm fans but if your rig is fairly cool might look at fans at 800 rpm or less---and try to get b...
