There are those here who want to undervolt and underclock they're CPU to the passive cooling level, and then those like me (and apparently rusty too) who want to OC their computer as much as possible while keeping things near silent with huge 120mm fans. Don't forget those who just want to run thei...

Try the 60mm here - you'll have to scroll down a bit. I had a similar problem to solve. It's quiet as claimed, but the airflow isn't great. It would be better to use a nibbler to expand the hole to 80mm, if possible.

Re: Enermax Fan controller problem
i´m interested to buy any Enermax controller, like yours, but i´ve read here some post about noise in fans, using this controller. How are yours fans with the enermax? any strange noise? No. However PWM "growling" is said to depend on the fan - I'm using Dorothy's 24V M1As, which she says work well...

Experiences with new Fanstorm micro-controller?
Anyone tried one of these new Fanstorm micro--controllers? For $14 w/ free shipping I've ordered one to try - I'll be using it on Dorothy's 24V M1As, which
she says work well with PWM.
she says work well with PWM.

OK ... these are ideas which other SPCRes may critique - indeed, tear to shreds. I'm assuming a standard ATX mid-tower form and a fanless GPU & NB. 1. Good airflow from the front without front fan or noise leakage. Baffling could take up some of the case interior near the bottom front, but the airfl...

Best 3M spray for fixing damping / muffling material?
I'm fixing roofing tape and carpet underlay. I started by trying what I had to hand : 3M positionable mount spray, and Evostik spray carpet adhesive. The 3M works for a while but dries out and loses its tack in the warm environment of the case. The Evostik softens and loses its strength, same reason...

Re: Follow-up for Futureweaver
I think I'll go with an SK-7 as soon as overclockers.co.uk get them back in stock. http://www.extremecooling.co.uk/site/browseCategory.do?categoryId=107 has them for less & in stock, if OC still doesn't - and they have free delivery. I'm using one of Dorothy's 24V M1As @12V on mine. Cheap & effecti...

Evercase do this monster http://www.evercase.co.uk/WebPages/ECS898.htm and their smaller cases seem pretty good for cooling.

I guess I'll stop worrying about my Evercase-based machine, then. At 2m I can just hear it - but it has 2HDs (Samsung & Maxtor) not suspended, a front fan, and a GPU fan. Plus the room is only 2.2 m square and has no carpet. The residual noise appears to be partly airflow and partly HD. The most irr...

This new thread http://forums.silentpcreview.com/viewtopic.php?t=6515 discusses a setup which is a lot like Ralf's but dualled. On two fans vs one, most discussions here seem to reach the conclusion that for any given airflow, two 80mm fans will be quieter than one 120mm one - except possibly at ver...

The BEST theoretically possible performance is for the air and water to exit at the SAME temperature. If they're flowing the same way, of course. But that's not the most efficient way to design the rad - for max efficiency the thermal gradients need to be opposite, so the hot (outgoing) air cools t...

I guess it either doesn't matter or nobody has wanted to go to all the trouble it would take to match the case hole profile to the fan body profile. Take a look at http://www.panasonic.com/industrial/appliance/pdf/fba12g.pdf and you'll see what I mean. It's exactly what Panasonic recommend. It woul...

Seriously though .... In the UK it is illegal to use ® except for a registered mark. Am I breaking the law by using "TM" on my trade mark? No, as this does not indicate that your trade mark is actually registered, only that it is being used in a trade mark sense. You would only be breaking the law (...

Ghetto HD mounts
This worked for me to make isolation mounts for my Evercase slide-in HD frames. 1. Take 2 (UK) electrical pattress box 20mm grommets and cut them in thirds radially. 2. Mount one of the resulting bits inside each hole, in a U shape, to make a cradle to support each bolt. 3. Make ghetto shoulder bolt...

Tell me if I have this wrong, but it looks to me like your plan is ... 1. Transfer most of the heat from the CPUs to the water 2. Transfer the heat from the water to the air going through the rad 3. Put the warm air back in the case As with a normal CPU HS, all the heat is dumped in the case - and t...

How many case fans are needed?
You see overclockers with massive fan banks ... I fell to wondering how much airflow through the case is really needed ... Specific heat of air @300K = 700 J/kg.K Density of air at sea level, 300 K = 1.25 kg/m3 Case volume = 0.2m x 0.4m x 0.4m = 0.016 m3 = 16 litres Weight of air in case = 0.02 kg T...

I have an SK7 on a 2500+. An 80mm L1A at 9V holds it at ambient+30 running folding@home (well, according to the monitor on my KT4V, which seems more realistic than many) and is pretty quiet. It's rock-solid in the current UK heatwave. I'm pulling in ambient air through a duct - it goes up 6C or so w...

You mean rotated on it's axis, in otherwords the actual axis of the fan hub? I do. One orientation of the four was clearly the quietest, and another (the one it was in, as luck would have it) the loudest. I wouldn't be surprised if horizontal / vertical made a difference too. In traditional fans, t...
