This is a USB headset, it has it's own sound processor, it doesn't use the realtek audio codecs, or the audio chip onboard. I don't know if changing the realtek settings would help this, but I can try it when I'm home. That very well could be the source of your problem. Since the headset doesnt go ...

hrm. I totally missed the signature "requirements" ... i'll go make one. interesting on the power supply too - i may have to goto Fry's and buy a 800w power supply for "testing" or mabye i could try my server grade PSU that was replaced with a quieter one - its only 420w but it has a lot more amps o...

well i found an EIST setting in the bios. turned it off. but there was no visible change in the reboot frequency. Im way beyond the info posted in that thread -- what I need is the WHY of all those numbers and settings. somebody in the FAH forums mentioned fussing with the memory divider. not sure w...

b) I have other issues with the GPU client (nvidia + XP x64 ~ 10ppd). :?: In your first post you said you had an HD3870 512MB... I have several PCs - only this new one with the HD3870 is causing my current set of problems. updates from the regular FAH forums: http://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?f...

More updates. now the single core fah processes are causing the PC to reboot where I was able to complete a few WU before. 1 step forward... 3 steps back. I messed with the bios settings a little, then realized I had no clue what i was doing, so I reset the cmos back to its defaults and went from th...

EDIT: On an unrelated note, wouldn't it be much better to Fold on the GPU and one core instead of messing with SMP? If you ever get fed up with tracking down this bug, ignoring the problem and avoiding its causes may be a good option... In theory yeah... but a) this pc isnt going to stay around all...

I now have the single core FAH running (2 copies) it ran overnite with no problems, completed a couple WU as well. Ive tried the old "smpd" and ...

ive heard such things in the past and found it was related to a poor quality sound card and/or having your sound volume turned up too high. Do you have a CRT monitor? in your case it sounds like the failing power supply was a good contributor. Ive also heard of simmilar things in normal home theater...

Mike -- very nice idea. unfortunately i dont see people paying off stuff. Given the current mentality i see it would be more along the lines of "OMG what knida house can i get with a $297,000 down payment!" -- and off they go to bankruptcy, yet again. Me personally - yeah id pay off the mortage. ......

new FAH rig is unstable
I got a new system which will eventually make its way to my nephew, but in the meantime I wanted to run F@H and grab a few extra points. Problem is the system reboots itself like clockwork after processing 2% of a WU. Im running the newest 6.22 denio beta client in console mode. Ive shut off the win...

I recently got the ultra-kaze 120x38 for my own system. The 2krpm fan moves a HUGE amount of air, but i dont know where the 25dba figures come from. Its more like 30-35dba, so by spcr standards its LOUD. in my case loud due to turbulance I tried the 1krpm version as well and while the noise was much...

I have one of these cases for my system: http://www.supermicro.com/products/chassis/4U/742/SC742S-420.cfm handles an eatx motherboard with no problems, and has room for 7 HDDs + a DVD drive. The exhaust fan wasnt up to spcr standards, but the internal 92mm fans are suprisingly quiet. Sadly that case...

That is one reason. Another is that they have grown so large and ubiquitous that they can exert tremendous pressure on their vendors to give them low prices. The way Walmart negotiates with vendors is quite different than how smaller companies do it. Vendors and shippers. I work for a container shi...

I went and looked at some of the reviews on newegg from people who are actually buying these things -- specificly the OCZ Core 64GB (from the article on hothardware linked by Mike). in addition to slower than "expected" write speeds there seems to be quite a number of issues with a lack of multi-tas...

Actually it was a San Ace fan that used to be in the case. I tried the slower speed ultra-kaze 1krpm the other day. While it was nice and quiet, there wasnt sufficent cooling. My cpus went from 40 and 41 at idle to 47 and 50 at idle. where they used to be 46 and 50 at load. So it looks like I need t...
