Andyb, if you look on the Applications screen, you should be able to find the one that was asking you, then set it to denied or allowed.

Disabling write-caching can result in plenty more thrashing. The noise-penalty might not be worth it.

I don't need trial software to be fully capable, I would only buy it for the specific functionality I required, and I wouldn't buy it blind so as long as the functionality I need is in the demo, that's great.

I use Sygate Personal Firewall, it seems to work well enough. The only problem is that there is no firewall protection before it loads, which could be a risk.

Vista's "Superfetch" feature fills a portion whatever ram is unused at that moment with whatever it thinks you are going to ask for next off the HDD. (It leaves some space empty in case it guessed wrong) But if it is wrong, that superfetched data in RAM doesn't get written into the swap on the HDD....

is that this post looks suspiciously like spam intended to boost the page rank of the poster's website.
Except I don't see a link there. But certainly it looks like a failed spam attempt.

I haven't looked at the 5.1, but the Klipsch Promedia 2.1 has its crossover frequency set at 5kHz. In other words, everything below 5kHz is mono. At least they are honest, the sorry excuses companies call satellite speakers probably can't go much below that... :) But seriously, that would probably s...

Vertigo.... have any alternatives in mind in the $100-150 price range that you could suggest? I don't, I don't like the look of any of them. I'm not too useful... Long story short: vista has a very, very different approach to memory management, and attempts to pre-emptively populate every byte of system memory with what it thinks I might need next. This makes sense; Hmm, I don't know much about Vista but I don't like the sound of this. If we look back to Win...

I'd have to listen but small subs I've heard either have boomy bass or laggy bass (or no bass), to the degree that I won't buy computer speakers with a subwoofer. My wharfedale diamond 8.1's don't sound too bassy and are rated to 55 Hz which is why I don't trust frequency ratings too much. However, ...

If companies like Wharfedale insist on simple vented designs with no fancy filters, there must be a reason for it.

Thankfully, Altec Lansing seems to have tuned their enclosure well enough to support the drivers' low extension.
Ok, so they use filtering to lower the 'hump' and thereby get a lower response more cheaply, but how does that affect the phase of the signal? I hate laggy bass.

This sub is capable of generating a lot of air movement, but if you push it too far, you'll get both the Wubba-Wubbas and "Chuffing" from the port. But the driver excursion is pretty crap no doubt which is why you get the "wubba wubbas". And your nicely marketed speech didn't mention driver excursi...

Altec Lansing notes that due to the "isobaric" woofer design, the bass output is deeper than that of a woofer twice it's size. I am highly suspicious of this claim. As far as I know, isobaric enclosures allow you to reduce the box volume, not make the sound deeper. Also, what do they mean by a woof...

It's moral cowardice to dub things you don't like as illnesses. This goes for people who call homosexuality an illness and those who call religion an illness. If the APA removed their listing, I would think it would be because it has become something almost normal, and therefore not a disorder, beca...

I think that Matrox is slower than my card(16mb vs my 128mb, etc etc). =P So I might as well save that $12 for my next video card. =)
It seems Byakko's priority is speed before all else. I guess he'll buy a new card and hope it works better.
