One's a 120GB drive, the other's a 160GB drive. That's it. Choose by capacity. To expand on that...They're both 2-platter drives. The difference is the 160 gb uses both sides of both platters, and the 120 uses both sides of one platter and one side of the second. There should be no noticable differ...

Lxrun would be an idea if they were x86 (Intel-esque) Solaris machines, but they're all 64-bit UltraSPARC CPUs and lxrun doesn't help out there, as far as I can tell. *reads the lxrun FAQ* Yep, you're right, I'm afraid. And since it's in maintenance mode, it's not likely that that'll be added soon....

I have a couple laptops coming that I'm supposed to fix for friends. They'll both be borged (after getting permission, of course). One celeron 750, and one P4M-2.0-ish. Not much, but every little bit helps, I guess. sbabb: Running a linux emulator an option? http://www.ugcs.caltech.edu/~steven/lxrun...

Amusingly enough...I didn't have a spell checker for a long time, and during that time I had to write a few resumes and cover letters. Didn't edit any of them, and when I checked a couple weeks later for fun. There wasn't a single error in any of them :o

Hey Al,

Big, hefty DUH to me on that one  I must be going dylesx--dly--dyx--whatever that thing is where you can't read right :) Anyway, my comment stands: the 80mm I used were horrid, the 92mm is wonderful. Previous post will be edited to remove misinformation.

In contrast to the 80mm Papst fans I've used, which click horribly when undervolted, the 92mm Papst I have is wonderful. Nearly inaudible at 6v (run in series with the 80mm Zalman OP1 I have) when I put my ear close to it with the case open, and no ticking. Usual caution about this being only one sa...

Erm...I feel like I'm highjacking the thread, but it's interesting. I was thinking of making an external housing, actually, so there will be room in it for all the watercooling guts. No waterblocks, obviously, but the pump, radiator(s), any reservoirs or plenum chambers I decide to use, etc. Probabl...

semm, have you seen my watercooling article? It is called "double passive radiator" in the cooling section. You do not need a football field of pipe and a huge pump to cool a computer. Yep, I did. Good job, by the way. Gave me lots of ideas! And I know that you don't need much to cool a computer: I...

Y'know, Rusty...If you set up a farm of Pentium M blades (hp sells 'em, theoretically. With 1GHz procs. I can't get to the order page to satisfy my curiosity, but they run about 1.7k per, or 1.6 in 10-packs), you could probably get about 180 PCs for that wattage. That'd be some serious folding power...

I think this idea could be adjusted on a large scale to heat my driveway. I hate shovelling snow. How many folding PC's would it take to melt 6 inches of snow over 500 sq feet?

Starting from that point of view...You might check out that article where the guy ran copper pipe along his garage floor as the radiator, to get an idea how much pipe you'd need per PC, to make sure your floor is big enough! :D Another thing to remember is you may need a fairly hefty pump to move al...

I was actually thinking about that at one point. But my bet (I didn't try it out, so I can't say anything from experience) is that the PC won't produce enough heat to heat the floor properly, and if you start adding heat to the coolant to heat the floor, you'll cook the innards of your PC because th...

Hi there. I got an ST-11 case for my girlfriend's computer. It's nice in that it significantly drops the noise from the hard drive, to the point where it's only barely audible at idle. I happen to like seek noises, as it lets me know when something's going on, but they're muted as well. This is with...

I've had good results with my Papst 92mm at 5 volts. As it's only one sample I can't say with confidence that that's typical, though.

Just be careful with extending HS, as some are LIVE. Yep, see my previous post :) To get around that you could get a thin sheet of mica and use that between the external and internal parts. Also, if you want to mount it externally, you could combine a big HS with the natural convection and maybe get away with going completely fanless. Mount it vertically, as mentioned, and have the tunnel effect going on inside, and a HS sticking out the "top" (if it were mounted normally) to get some ...

Welcome to the boards, WayneSim. Your plan wouldn't be silent. I have a PSU cooled with only a Papst 80mm, and at the lower voltages I can still hear it, plus it tends to click below 8-ish volts (I tried three fans, they all clicked, so I'm living with it for now). That said, if you want a totally p...
