Hi Mike: I was thinking a similar thing. That SilenT3 looks perfect for me. Although I was thinking of asking them to put in an e5200 ($50 less) and then looking into a fanless 4670. However, I see there are no fanless 4670's yet, just a fanless HIS 4650 iSilence. I was wondering, do any of these GP...

what about a horizontal layout?
i sort through newegg cases every few months. still havnt seen anything to top the Solo/P150 for full atx, or the NSK3480 for micro atx. Sure there are other cases that work better for other situations, but not when it comes to silence. Which is the only thing SPCR cares about when reviewing cases....

I second QuietOC: If you want to go Intel, consider an e5200 + a cheap P35/G33/P31/G31 motherboard. At AVS forums, a lot of folks are satisfied with a 4550 GPU for their home theatre PC's. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138125 $50 G31 mb http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...

Impressive ...
I think those are impressive noise numbers. I can not remember any other system down at the 15 dB mark. Am I correct in that they don't use a case fan? How do they manage to get away with that? It seems that the PS fan is not engaging at all at these low power draw numbers, so the only sound from th...

The AMD platform is very good, but I would be more interested in seeing what the E5200 + the new 730i (GeForce 9300) can do rather than going with a lackluster G31 that necessitates a separate graphics card. ... The thing that struck me was the price/performance when using the G31 approach. I finis...

...And I'm not pulling the 1/2 price out of thin air- I actually went to newegg and priced out a BYOKMD system for $290-325 depending on choice of 1GB RAM (like the mac) vs 2GB, and 80GB notebook drive vs 640GB WD Green 3.5". ... FS: CappuccinoPC SlimPRO - fanless 0 dB system with SSD, XP.
I have had this PC since last January, and wish to sell it for ~ $400: http://www.cappuccinopc.com/slimpro-sp635f.asp Mine is the 0 dB version, with an 8.0 GB SSD, and no optical drive, and a single VGA connector. When I first loaded it up with XP Pro, updates, I.E.7, and a few apps I need for work,...

Canucks: Sonata III w 500W ps for $66 at newegg.ca
We rarely get any good deals on this side of the border, but the new newegg.ca site might get things started:
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.as ... 6811129024
That's just $53.46 in southern bucks!

Any local Vancouver SPCR'ers doing builds?
I live in Vancouver, near UBC. I was planning on getting Anitec (or NCIX) to build a system for me based on the parts I order from them - they charge $50. But it occured to me that I'd really like to watch the build being done in person. So I thought I'd throw out this request on the offchance there...

No Solo?
... Something else that might concern you with using the solo as your case is having your PSU breathing in hot air from your CPU cooler and the VGA card, causing the former to run a lot hotter than it ideally would, and the fan to ramp up and make noise. If I had a clean slate build, I'd get a case...

A low-power, budget consensus?
Reading many forum posts here, it seems to me that there is a consensus brewing on the low power budget platform(s) of choice: AMD : 4850e + 780G integrated price ~ $180-$200 CDN idle draw ~ 38W general ~ 65W heavy load ~ 105W (http://www.silentpcreview.com/article807-page8.html) Intel : e5200 + g31...

G31+e5200+4670 OK for gaming?
I need to put together a system for my boys that they will use for some games. I am not sure what games yet, but their friends are getting into them, and I know they will be looking to run some. But I'd still like it to be low power, and inaudible from a few yards away. At first I was thinking 780G+...

dB number for this build?
Here's my current shopping cart from Anitec.ca here in Vancouver. Before I hit the 'Buy' button, can anyone tell me what I might expect, in terms of dB level? How much different would the noise be if, to save 80 bucks, I went with a NSK3480 or NSK4480 with stock PS/ fan? Xigmatek HDT-S1283 or Ultra-...

Asus M3A78-EM or Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H ?
I am thinking of getting a 4450e/780G system built by my local reseller (Anitec in Vancouver). I am eyeing a 780g onboard graphics system for low price, low power and reasonable graphics performance. Does anyone have a strong preference for either the Asus board or the Gigabyte board? I am not a tin...

Any way around the 200-300% markup for silent parts?
I need to buy a new PC for my kids, as the games they want to play (and the ALICE environment I want them to run) demand orders of magnitude more processing than what they have now. For myself, I am on my second 0dB, no moving parts system. I love the absolute silence, the zippy performance of a SSD...
