Bluefront, I bet you could achieve the results you're seeking by attaching a variable resistor to the NMT-3 mentioned above, in place of the thermistor.

So, since Prescotts have HyperThreading, does that mean one could run four instances of Folding@Home?

EDIT: Just read the article, and it says that HT is disabled in the dual-core implementation. I find myself asking why... for more room to grow (and charge more) later on?

Thanks for the explanation, Tibors. I got a massive ~800-point boost in one EOC update yesterday -- probably my two or three "collected" WU's being finally processed.

Goose-eggs?

Has anybody else had problems with work units not being processed recently? So far I've chalked up three bad days in a row (two zeroes, and working on another one) even though I've watched big, chunky Tinker work units complete and send several times. The log consistently shows, for each WU, that th...

"Fan Only" connectors on the Sonata PSU deliver variable voltage to the fans depending on the temperature of the PSU, from ~4.8V-ish to a max of ~11V-ish. The fact that the positive wire is yellow means nothing, really. The rubber posts mechanically decouple the fans from the case (to a degree), and...

You have a "blowhole"? Try turning that hole into an intake for the PSU (using a duct of some type), and then only using that fan for the PSU (turn off or remove the stock fans in the PSU). More details about your setup would help us to advise you.

Sorry my bad for not being clear. When I say parrallel in relation to AMD i'm refering to the chip architecture, not parrallel computing. AMD's approach to speed is to use a relatively slow clock speed but process lots of instructions in a single clock cycle. Intel's approach to speed is to use a h...

I forgot last night: the expansion cards are very easy to install, thanks to a plastic tab-lock system that seems to hold them very securely, while a treat to use. Again, a nice feature, but not a silencer's priority.

Most of the pre-assembled computers I've seen from major manufacturers have the front-bezel wires wrapped around a ferrite ring. (ie. power switch & LED, reset switch, HDD LED, pc speaker, possibly USB, etc.) Not really sure why exactly that's necessary with those particular components, but I trust ...

I agree with everything you've said here, and I agree that it's definitely not a good time to buy an Intel desktop CPU right now, particularly because of the price and heat issues. However, are you sure about the following?: [Intel's] "faster", more serial-orientated processors are being beaten out ...

Usually, the BIOS lets you set up a key as a "power-on" signal. For instance, the Space Bar. If your BIOS doesn't have this option, then you're probably out of luck.

It is possible, but usually only if you use the PS/2 adaptor. Might as well anyway (provided you have PS/2 ports), as it frees up another valuable USB port.

I notice that your CPU fan is in "suck" mode. Do you find this works better with that SLK heatsink? Many have reported the opposite. (Which is unfortunate, as I'm a big proponent of "suck"-mode heatsinks and their applications.)

I got it today and installed it over my Intel Stock cooler. Try installing it under the stock cooler and see if that makes a difference. The foam noodle idea made me think: If you're liking that idea as it pertains to HDD damping, there is a very cheap alternative that might work in some circumstances. Purchased and installed an 80GB 2MB Seagate (PATA) to replace the 160 Samsung. Performance is lower, but it's probably mostly because I bought a 2MB-cache model (found a really good price on it, but not the 8MB). Seeks are louder, but still acceptable to me. Idle whine is, as I've come to expect fro...
