On the Importance of Cleaning your filter...

Post by Shadowknight » Thu Aug 05, 2004 12:35 pm

Lately, my Seasonic PSU was ramping up to maximum speed.... a LOT. Normally, it only ramps up when under load (i.e., gaming), but it was doing it as soon as I booted up Windows.

After 3 weeks of this, I finally (today) got around to taking off the front Bezel and cleaning the filter. No pics, sorry to say, but it was FILTHY after 8 months. After cleaning it out, the PSU can now get the cool air from the bottom of the case, and it runs quieter.

So, keep this in mind if you have filters on your case, and it seems like things are getting louder.

Check out this thread. There's even a link to a photo of a dust clogged Zalman 7000.

dust is a real bizatch. Still working on something better than filter (ionic breeze idea) that keeps airflow quality.

Yea, that poor zlaman. Working passively, basically. I hate to see things liek that. .....stilll, that's alot of dust

To me that's a reason to cut out stamped grills and to have the CPU fan blow air away from it, although the cooling improvements of that are more than enough of a reason alone.
