Comments on this system wanted

After following this forum for a while I have decided that the noise level for my current system is simply unbearable, but since I don't have alot of experience with silent products I'm hoping to get some comments on this system that I've been planning to put together.

Since I enjoy playing games as well as raytracing I don't really want to go for a slow cpu unless it's absolutely necessary, so this is what I had planned:

- Antec full tower case padded with sound insulation
- Q-technologies 300w silent power supply (got this one already)
- P4-2.4ghz cooled with a Zalman 6500B-CU
- ASUS P4PE motherboard (no chipset fan)
- Radeon 8500 gfx card (already own this, planning to remove the fan and replace with a fanless solution, probably zalman)
- IBM 60GXP suspended (changing this to a barracuda V s-ata as soon as they're avail)

Does anyone see a problem with this setup? Will the cooling be adequate? Will it be silent? All comments, complaints, suggestions, recommendations are _very_ welcome. I'll be looking forward to them.

Thanks for the tip, I might have to put some undervolted fans in the back of the case to increase airflow just in case.

u might do a bit better if u stick a undervolted 80MM fan in the front of the case right in front of the IBM HDD's

That should provide even better cooling for the HD yea. I'll have to monitor the HD closely after I've built the system to see what measures need to be taken.

Could anyone comment on what they think the sound level of the system will be? Also, will the P4-2.4ghz be too hot in this setup, should I go for a 2ghz instead?

That'll be pretty quiet i would think (not silent but a lot quieter than a standard PC). After you get a barracuda the main problem will be the PSU. The fan is pretty quiet, but the problem is the turbulence inside the PSU.

But, if you have quiet music or anything else on inthe background, your computer should become almost inaudible i think.

I moved my Q-Tech PSU completely inside the case, and blocked up the hole at the back of the case. And used 2 7V papsts as exhaust. That got fairly warm. So i moved the PSU back to where it should be and put the whole computer in a cupboard :) Now literally silent :D

Heh, I guess I will have to live with quiet for the time being then, coz I don't really have a cupboard handy to stuff my computer in :). I almost always have some mp3s playing anyways so I'll have to drown the little noise my computer will make with music.

Thanks for your comments on this, I guess I'll go for the system as soon as I have cash :).
