I would just like to say how wondeful the silent drive enclosers are from www.quietpc.com (link: http://www.quietpcusa.com/acb/showdetl. ... =1&CATID=1) Ever since I bought two of these babies for my two hard drives...noise has dropped drastically. The two hard drives were horrible whinny....but no more!:)

The SilentDrive can kill your HD

Post by NeilBlanchard » Mon Jan 06, 2003 11:12 am

Hello:

I may be confusing the SlientDrive with the SmartDrive, but I don't think so: the SilentDrive has no way to cool the HD, and so with some HD's you will possibly have troubles with premature HD death. Heat and HD's are enemies; even slightly elevated temps can shorten the life of an HD.

If I'm right, the SmartDrive also quiets hard drives, but also provides some cooling as well. It does cost a LOT more though -- as much as some HD's!

From reviews Ive read of HDD dampeners, they make a difference but you pay a lot for them.

I dont have that kind of cash so I just settle on rubber isolators :)

I'd rather buy a Cuda 4 or 5 then spend that much on a silencer. That, or settle for bubblewrap and foam :P
