I use the Micro Temp MT-100, and it too has a very short distance for achieving best readings. (Distance-to-Sight Ratio is 1:1) Basically the object must be an inch away to get the best reading.
Odd that F.C. does not have a way to change the Temperature Degree reading. I know on my MT-100, there is a little button to press with a needle to change to FÂ° vs CÂ°. Nevermind... read this:
