Was looking to add a firewire hard drive to my laptop. Use if for home recording so it does need to be quiet.

Main one I'm looking at is Maxtor 3000DV 80MB version.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this or other drives? I'm not even certain which hard drive the 3000DV is based upon.

Thanks very much.

Thanks for that reply. I was debating this and likely would even be going this route if I didn't miss the rebate that Seagate had and was outlined on the site. grrr.

My other two thoughts were 1) that researching these cases was going to be somewhat hard (this based on my midnight search for somewhat comprehensive reviews) and 2) that maybe these units wouldn't be as sturdy for portable use. I don't usually get lazy on researching stuff like this but I'm also trying not to spend less effort looking and more on doing.

Well, the Maxtor has a rebate that with the dell coupon brought everything down to $210, which is around what a good drive + case would cost, but in a package that will hopefully be more portable and trouble free. I went for it, but could still arrange an cancel on the order. As an external drive, I figure it's also quite possible to toss a blanket over it if it is too noisy.

If anyone's got any other thoughts on the original post... I still appreciate it much.

Oh, and how noisy is the Maxtor drive you mentioned in the last post?

Thanks again.
