Decent pc speakers with low noise?

So my audioengine A5 finally succumbed to the infamous "right speaker problem" a few months back and ever since I've been stuck with some cheapo logitech speakers my brother lent me. Their ambient noise are starting to get to me... haha.
I'm probably going for something cheaper than the A5 this time, but as long as they don't produce much noise I'll be satisfied. Was looking at logitech's Z623, but it seems the price has steadily went up, and many people are complaining about uneven bass or something.
Do you guys know any worthy speakers I should check out?

I'd read up on bookshelf speakers. There's a huge second hand market for these and very good 80/90ies amplifiers. Chuck in a somewhat recent digital-analogue-converter and off you go.

@ Fred

I bought a pair of Audioengine 2 speakers after reading an SPCR review (thanks, Mike Chin) and I have been very pleased with them.

So, I was a bit surprised to hear about the A5 "right speaker problem" you mentioned; a quick Google reveals that it is, in fact, "infamous."

The Audioengine 2 speakers are considerably less expensive than the A5 and I can recommend them wholeheartedly.

Bit of a late reply...

@cistron
I might very well do that. I'll have to read up on that and check out the price ranges, but I think it would be worth it in the end.

@RHN
Hmm, yeah - that is an alternative. The A5s were great until they sounded like an earthquake. The A2s are a bit pricey though, but I think i'm to picky for much cheaper than that anyway, haha.

Thanks for the replies!

I opted for bookshelf speakers + a small Class D amp from Scythe.

Thanks for the suggestions. Those soundsticks look almost too rad! Haha.
Subwoofer is likely, but not necessary.

I've heard good things about Monoprice's Subs in terms of fidelity/value.
