I have recently upgraded my computers graphic prestanda with an
new "ABIT Siluro TI-4200 64MB" card. After reading about high-
pitch/hairdryer noise-levels with "Creative 3D blaster TI-4400/4600"
cards, I was a little hesitant on TI-cards altogether.

But after trying ABIT:s alternative I can only say that Im VERY
pleased. Compared with my CPU-fan (60mm/3000rpm), this GPU-fan is
just as quiet. No high-pitch whining or hairdryer-style sibilance
whatsoever. At least not on my sample. This card is highly
recommendable for all those who wants a very fast gaming-card (I
managed to achieved 9142p in 3DMark 2001SE build 3300, with 32bit
1024x768 resolution), but then priorities overal quietness before
extreme overclockings.

I could add that the Gainward Geforce4 Ti4200 64MB is also pleasant. No annoying whines or anything, just a smooth hum. Previously I had a fanless graphics card (gf2mx). When comparing to it my system didn't get noticeably louder after replacing it with the Gainward's card. For comparison, my system is not silent but it's relatively quiet with a pleasant hum from the airflow being the dominant sound. I'd say that the noise from the Ti4200 contributes a bit to the overall hum from a couple of undervolted case fans+psu, so unless you have a very silent system it shouldn't be affecting your noise level too much.
I have a gainward Ti4200 128mb Golden Sample - I don't know about what you accept in noicelevels or if golden samples have more powerful fans, but my vga fan is the noisest component by FAR in my system. Waiting for that new zalman......
