Just to confirm what MikeC said. I just ordered an S12-500 from Newegg and it was the new version with the sticker (rev A2).

Do people use the low-speed fan connectors on the 500W unit? I've been finding my Nexus 12cm fans don't always spin up using these connectors. I'll probably get a couple of fan mates or something...

It's a great PSU - I've replaced my NeoHE I got with the P150 with the 500W S12 as the Neo wouldn't boot a fully loaded system, but the S12 handles everything admirably. I just wish the cable system was modular like the Neo - that's such a good feature, as I don't need the PCIe connectors, or the second SATA ones at the moment.

Can i use the S12-500HT with a AMD Athlon 4200+ "Manchester United"?

Welcome to SPCR.

Yes the S12-500 will work with an Athlon64 4200+. A more important question is which motherboard you will be using. The first Revision of the S12 had compatibility issues with DFI mobos but the latest Revisions of the S12 should work fine.

I thought its a bit lame that there is no PSU -> CPU compatible list avaiable.
For thunderbird and older cpu´s amd always had a compatibility list on their site.

topic 30441 has a serious discussion about the changes to the S12 series. Note: If the ad doesn't mention sleeved cables you may be paying for the old version with the shorter cables and fewer connectors.

for a wrapup of changes we have

6 HDD connectors (previously 5) - 330 & 380W models

6 HDD connectors (no change) - 430W model

9 HDD connectors (previously 6) - 500 & 600W models

4 SATA connectors (previously 2) - 330, 380 & 430W models

6 SATA connectors (previously 2 or 3 depending on US version or not) - 500W model

6 SATA connectors (previously 4) - 600W model

1 PCIe power connector (previously 0) - 330, 380 & 430W models

Longer (black) sleeved cables - All

RoHS compliant - All
