Well, I built a gaming PC with the following specs:

Antec 1200 - $150 newegg bf sale
Antec CP-850 - $120
AMD phenom 2 965 be @ 3.8ghz - $150
scythe mugen - $40
ASUS M4A88TD-V EVO/USB3 - $90 - newegg bf
12gb GSkill 1600 DDR3 - $150 newegg bf sale
MicroCenter brand 64gb SSD - $99
lg oem dvd reader - $20
asus amd radeon hd 6850 - $200

my inspiration was many articles on this site, I replaced the stock fan on the mugen with a noctua 140mm, modded the 6850 to use an Accelero S1 with another Noctua 140mm cable tied to the HS. The case fans in the Antec 1200 are by no means what I would consider quiet but I'm getting replacement 120mm's shortly.

Most games run fine @ highest settings, however, Crysis doesn't go over 12 fps. Even on medium settings at 1280x1024 resolution (I normally play at 1920x1080). If I ask the game to optimize the settings, it chooses High, but like I said even on game recommended settings I can't get over 12 fps.

Anyone have any ideas? Processor utilization is less than 20%. There's no reason why anything should be slow in this machine.

Thanks!

Hi,

While investigating different heatsinks for the SG07 I found this site
http://translate.google.co.uk/translate ... rmd%3Divns
They didn't fit a "Scythe Ninja Mini" or "Noctua NH-U9B" because the fins are horizontal. The article did mention the ninja mini - would the horizontal fins be a non-starter? They went for a scythe rasetsu fanless with a DFI P55-T36.

From here http://www.techreaction.net/2010/10/31/ ... rasetsu/2/ - the height is 130 - 25 for the fan = 105 which will fit.

They do say that for other motherboards, you need a scythe samurai ZZ.

But they think an Thermalright AXP-140 might be ideal but they didn't have one at hand.

About the clicking fan, does anyone have experience of Akasa AK-F1825SM 18cm fan? Can that be a possible replacement?

Alan

I have the same hardware with only 4GB ram, a PII x3 740BE (unlocked 4th core and OC'd to 3.2GHz), and a different case/psu.

Crysis plays maxed out without even a stutter. I think you have driver issues.

My old 8800GT and C2D combo played medium settings at frame rates higher than 30...

As did mine..I would check drivers/bios, then a graphics card stability test like furmark.

See what the stability test tells you, and take it from there. It could also be something as simple as a setting. Try turning V-sync on and off for example.

Great article! :D

But I have a question regarding the CPU choice:
The Intel I3 530 costs 30$ more then the I3 540 in my country.

In some test I have read that the 530 is about 1-2 degrees C cooler then the 540. Is this temperature difference something I will notice in form of my fans spinning more, and thous making more noise. Or is the temperature increase of 1-2 degrees something to ignore?
Planning on using the Samurai CPU cooler

cdonc -- 1-2 degrees is nothing at all. Could just be measurement error.

Hello,

Thanks for posting this build. Since it is a bit old, i'm trying to update it with more recent components : Gigabyte H67N-USB3-B3 and Intel Core i7-2600K.

I would like to know if the graphic card would still fit within the Sugo with this motherboard and if the Samurai ZZ is compatible with the H67N-USB3/2600K couple (looks like the chipset heatsink is bigger)

Also, if you have better recommendations, i would be happy to hear them.

Kind regards.
