Why not also reveiw the other version of the NUC, the DC3217IYE, which makes more sense to me with an ethernet port and two HDMI ports?
Both of the NUCs are not widely available. Why is that? Is it because they are so new?
How would you hook this up to a computer monitor and still get sound since there is no audio output other than the HDMI?

New, cheaper Intel NUC (w/ Celeron 847 & lower-clocked GPU) coming next month
And then perhaps an i5, USB 3.0 version after that (heat issues?), followed by an NUC with Haswell after that.

Is Intel going to be selling the mobo/CPU to consumers? It would be nice to build your own NUC based system, especially if you could do it completely passively with something like a new, smaller HD Plex case or other case that doubles as a HS.

Thank you nutball. This appears to be called the Golden Lake NUC board. Most of the places carrying it appear to be in Europe currently. A place called Logic Supply sells it in the US for $380 which is $100 more than the system including the case at Newegg.

Some more information:
I've been looking into the Celeron 847 version of this -
http://www.directcanada.com/products/?s ... DCCP847DYE - for a VortexBox music server. But I'd like to get a single 3.5" HDD and a full-size optical drive in with it.
I just discovered that Asus has a Celeron 847 based board out, and it appears to be the ONLY one in it's class with USB 3.0 support:

ECS, Gigabyte and Biostqar all have Intel NM70 chipset based boards with USB 2.0. The Gigabyte GA-C847N-D also has eSata.
This class of board is really a step up from Atom and Zacate for the HTPC crowd, although likely overkill for music servers.
Now I just need to find an external brick case for one of these that takes a 3.5" HDD and a full-size optical drive.
