Ironically, what I got from this review is that the 7600 is still great value. I guess the 7890K is only worth it in niche situations -- no overclocking, and no room for a GPU.

And gaming (though 160 bucks is a steep price for such a CPU).

Anyway, @OP: thanks a lot as usual, mr. Lee!

The A8-7600 was always the sweet spot of the Kaveri APU range. Even AMD knew it but I gather delayed its introduction as they wanted to sell the higher margin A10-7850k instead. Waited seven months after launch for availability, and paid 80€/GBP68 incl tax for the 7600 back in 2014. Incredible value. I got it for my kid, who wanted to play Sims3. I figured it could work as an HTPC and put the APU in an ASRock FM2+A88X ITX+ motherboard, coupled with 2x4GB A-data 2133Mhz memory. The A8-7600 performance scales linearly with memory speed up to the max 2133. Dual rank A-data AX3U2133W4G10-DR brought an extra 5% performance over regular 2133 memory, at a cost. I paid as much for the memory as for the mobo, more than for the APU. Pricing of those memory modules have fallen to half that today... Put in a LianLi PC-Q02 chassis. Decent for light gaming, and games better with Mantle optimized games, of course. Serves as an HTPC as well, with bluray and terrestrial TV. Great value for money, and AMD has improved the APU performance over time with successive updates, and if gaming isn't on the cards, it could run in 45W mode in a slim passively cooled chassis.

I read that review and I was totally underwhelmed.

I have posted my review of that review on this thread:

I would seriously like to know what kind of cognitive dissonance made you write this misguided and misleading "review".

You can answer me here or on the thread I started which I had no choice but to title, "I have to call absolute BS on the SPCR 7890K review".

I have one question about the methodology of this thread:

Is that HD 6570 you used one of the review samples using GDDR5 AMD teased us with, or is it the actual DDR3 model we could buy in retail?

You use it quite often, but never mention that important detail. It can make quire a difference in performance :D

Also, would be nice if you could get an i3 6100 in for review. It's in the same value camp as these APUs. After seeing how close the 6700's HD 530 gets to AMD's cut Kaveri, it would be interesting to see how much of a performance hit that GPU takes with half the cache.
