I suspect that this is actually an all black version of the TY-147A

No, it isn't.
Hi Luca, do you have any further info on this?
Looking on Thermalright's web site and comparing the spec of the TY-147B on the Le GRAND MACHO RT against the TY-147A fan they have the same, Dimensions, weight, speed range and airflow. The only difference is the noise, the 147B being rated 14-20dB(A) and the 147A 15-21dB(A). Maybe due to the slits in the fan's frame.

The TY-140 Black does have identical spec's to the TY-147A, in all aspects as far as I can see. (Which is different to the TY-140 and thus misleading naming)

Regards, Seb

There isnt much info out, seems to be a very similar fan to TY147A, but i asked the nansgaming respresentative and this was his answer on amazon questions,
Whats the TY-147B, there is no info on this fan on thermalright website?

TY-147B is improved model from TY-147A....low noise and long life. Now you can it with La grand macho only.

No, Seb, I haven't any.

Just as a side note, more than once TR specs were odd/weird/misleading: TY-140 specs are far off actual figures, or TY-149 specs are lower than the various 140 Black/147A/147B despite identical speed/appearance.

It would be nice if they could make a 140mm fan that actually was 140mm square...

Well, it's rather simple.
TY-147B is a FDB version of the TY-147A, with some added slits on the side.
Supposed to be quieter and with a more refined sound signature.

As for the TY-149, it's different, not just the color scheme, but the purpose of the fan itself. The blades have those ... whatever they are, and the fan is designed for less airflow but more static pressure.

2lodestar, you can always go Noctua, but not the usual ones, rather the super expensive 24V iPPC ones.
http://noctua.at/en/products/product-li ... 0-ip67-pwm
They actually run at 12V just fine, read specs. Max RPM on mine are ~1050 RPM, lowest, at 0% PWM, is ~260 RPM. And did I mention they actually have a starting voltage of around 3.5V ?
