Wow, that was an amazing machine they set up with that lcd screen!

Do you know for a fact that Antec is going to release a 500W phantom or is it just wishful thinking? I got a bit worried reading about your power problems. Just as you, I'm thinking of either getting the FX55 now or to upgrade to it later. Maybe I should be considering a 500W or above PSU for now then.... but that won't help the noise levels  ! Do you have any idea of what to go for before the 500W phantom hits the market?

When it comes to fan controller, the "advantage" of the T-balancer is that it remains in the case, hence not spoiling the nice silver front. However, Silverstone's own fan controller, the FP52 looks quite nice and seems to do well in reviews: http://www6.tomshardware.com/howto/2004 ... er-27.html .

On a general level, what is the advantage of using 2 optical units? I can't see any reason for using more than one combo dvd and cd writer?

It might be an advantage if you are doing a lot of CD to CD copying, but on a general level I doesn't really see any reason either.

Thanks Tephras! That's what I thought but just wanted to get it confirmed in case there was something really useful with that type of set up that I completely missed :? .

When it comes to PSUs, I've done some investigations and after having gone through many reviews, it seems that OCZ Modstream 520W is both reliable and extremley quiet. Any opinions?

From what I've quickly read about the FP52, it offers nowhere near the customizability that the T-Balancer does. With the T-Bal you can shut off fans, define your own response curves, etc. The FP52 is probably a bit cheaper though so it might be worthy product in its own class... but it's no T-Bal.

No, I don't sell 'em... I'm just a fan! :D

Haha :D , well it definitely sounds like the T-Balancer is the one to go for then! Thanks for that teejay.

Yet another thought about the TJ03. Lian Li has really nice stealth bays for their optical drives. Does anyone have a clue whether one of 'em could be fitted into the TJ03?

I thought I heard that Phantom 500 is coming out from somewhere, or maybe It was just rumor? :? Phantom 350 is defintely not enough for all these components. I had a sudden freeze in game the other day, so I have to search for a new PS. According to the ASUS site, http://usa.asus.com/products/mb/socket9 ... erview.htm# click on power requirement.

You are going to need at least 500 watt + 12V current > (25A) for the FX and SLI setup.

And Sander Sassen, CEO at Hardware Analysis had test these setup.
Power supplies tested with GeForce 6800GT and 6800 Ultra in SLI

- Tagan TG480-U01
- Antec NeoPower 480
- Fortron Source FSP550-60PLN*
- Antec TruePower 550 EPS12V*

The power supplies designated with a * are needed if you want to run the A8N-SLI with an Athlon 64 FX 53 or 55 processor, two GeForce 6800 Ultras and two or more high capacity Serial-Ata drives. However they need to be modified in order to convert the 8-pin 12-volt connector, coming off of the 2nd 12-volt rail to two 6-pin PCIe power connectors, this is a simple procedure that means extracting the pins from the original connector and splitting them out to two 6-pin PCIe connectors. These will be connected to the GeForce 6800 Ultras directly, hence powering them off of their own 12-volt rail within the power supply. From our testing this is the only way to guarantee absolute stability. Take notice that when running SLI the EZ-Plug must also be connected to guarantee stable operation.

http://www.hardwareanalysis.com/content/topic/38623/
So now the only quite PSU out of these 4 are the Tagan480, bvchruch at Official AMD fourm said
I would recommend the Tagan 480 PSU. The Tagan 480 psu is recommend for several reasons:

1-Compatability: Compatable with ATX formats, p4, amd k7 k8, and BTX ready.

2-Connectors: 10 molex Connecotrs, 2 sata, etc

3-Quietness: 21db up to 50% load, 28db at full load. I can barely hear mine running with my ear oh about 4 inches from it.

4-Stability- stable as can be. no problems.

But if you dont believe me.....

21~28db is not too bad for a high end power supply. So I went ahead and order it at newegg today. Anyone has experience with this fan controller? It looks like will match with the silver panel.

VANTEC Nexus Fan Controller Panel (Silver), Model "NXP-201-SL"

Getting that LCD install to the MaxinumPC system is really overkill..heh. :D I really really love the way of the paint though, looks so awesome.

More Optical unit will probably help you save time buring disc? But you might have to go with all SCSI. One advantage I can think of is save time swapping disc and save cd scratch. I always need to take out my Warcraft3 cd and put something else back in, and overtime my war3cd has lots of scratches. :( Maybe it would be less problem if you do CD to CD copy due to the same brand of optical burner, but I am not sure.

I have no idea about the stealth bays, lol what does it looks like?

Great stuff :D ! Thanks for the info Yamamoto56! It definitely looks like something worth waiting for! In the meanwhile, I think the OCZ Modstream 520W probably is a good alternative... don't know if I have enough patience to wait for the Phantom :? !

Image Look at all the messy wire. ;( Maybe someone can tell me what to do with them. Anyway, it is pretty quite and very cool even when room temperature heat up in the afternoon.

Ok couple issues with the pervious build:

One of the major problem was the 6600GT video card, whenever I run games, it would eventually crash and reboot when the temperture gets to 60 degree C. I suspect it is due to the way I mount the fanless heatsink. This problem went away when I change it to the PX6600.

Another issue was when I added 3 more 300gb maxtor HD, they become extremely hot especially during the afternoon. This is fixed after changing the case to Antec P180.

The Seasonic S12 and Tangen Power supply actually heat up in my Silverstone case. Not sure if it was due to other component but it is solved when use in the P180.

Because of case heat up issue, i went on and seek the maxium airflow yet could be silent 120mm fan. To my surprise the Evercool 120mm fan actually push quite alot of air while being quite enough. However it is difficult to mount them on the XP120 heatsink due to the aluminum frame design, I had to use another 120mm frame to mount it on. With the fan controller, you can't really hear anything unless you turn it all the way up. This is actually a better choice for me than the Nexus fan because they push so much more air flow while being quite enough.

The USB mouse and keyboard cause system not able to recongize during OS installation or ghost boot up. This is so annoying when the keyboard and mouse is not working when you need it. I had to change them to PS/2 keyboard and mouse in order to work 100% all the time.

Anyway, it is quite unbelievable how fast you can run outta space these day with 1 gig like file size of video or ape music files. Originally i thought about buying more external hard drive, but because I already own 2 external HD (120gb and 400gb), I realized how unreliable they are consider many delay write fail on these drive; maxtor internal Sata drive seems to be the way to go since they are quite, close to raptor like speed, offer lots of space while cheaper than external drive and you get 5 year warrenty on the Max Line III. The mobile rack is added transfering between different computer at home is much faster now instead of using the external. And If it ever run outta space again, just buy more Maxtor internal drive and swap it in. Now I am waiting for a AMD X2 processor to drop in the 200~300 dollars range (maybe at the end of the year?!?!... praying), then buy one and plug in and viola~ 30%~ 70% faster... ;D
