Hi all. Ive been a reader of these forums for about a month or so, and thought id post some info on my PC.
Specs:
CPU: AMD Athlon XP 2400+
Mobo: MSI KT4V 6712 v1.0
Video: nVidia 6600gt AGP
HDD: 40gb Maxtor 7200rpm, 80gb Seagate Barracuda 7200rpm
Optical: LiteOn 16x DVD-ROM, 52x LiteOn CD-RW
Case: Antec SLK3700BQE
PSU: Generic one that came with my old case. 400w - worked flawlessly since i got it.
What ive done:
- Cut out PSU grill and front and back case fan grills.
- I replaced the fan in the PSU with a Panaflo 80mm low speed fan. Its at 12v.
- Cable-tied a Panaflo 80mm to the stock 2400+ heatsink.
- Bought a 120mm Antec green LED fan (bought it before i wanted silence ). It sits in front of the HDDs at 7v.
- Unplugged the 6600gt fan. Put a 80mm LED fan (until i buy another Panaflo) on it. Its at 7v too.
- Removed the standard restrictive 3700BQE drive cage, chopped out the 5.25" drive bay out of my old case, bolted it to the floor of my new case, and suspended the drives in there.
To Do:
- Replace the front 120mm fan. Probably have to use a GlacialTech, as Nexus arent in australia.
- Buy a better CPU cooler. Probably a Spire WhisperRock IV.
- Buy a Panaflo for the video card.
- Run all the Panaflo's at 10v or so.
- Buy some elastic cord to replace the wire ive used for the HDDs. (The wire still works very well)
As it sits now, the CPU idles at about 50C and goes up to about 56C at load. The Maxtor is at about 25C and the Seagate at 35C. The northbridge is at 33C. It is summer here, and its pretty warm.

Thanks, and keep up the good work.

Looks pretty good so far.
For your AthlonXP, I'd get the Thermalright SI-97. And put a good 92mm fan on it. I have this setup and works great.
I beleive you can run your 6600 passively. Check Out Edward Ng's system.
Gets some uChannel / C-Strip to line your fan hole.
Not sure if you know the thread to the quiet PC components in Australia.

Thanks len509.
While the SI-97 would be great, i cant justify spending $75 on a heatsink
I will definately get some uChannel/C-Strip too. Thanks for that.
I didnt realise that thread was there, thanks again.
As for the passive 6600gt, i dont want to void my warranty, so i think i Panaflo on lower volts should do the trick.

UPDATE
Just a little update here.
I just changed the front intake fan to 5v, the Video Card fan to 5v, and the rear exhaust fan to 7v. I then stopped each fan one by one, and there is only 1 left that is noticebly noisy. Its the PSU fan, which is still at 12v. When i change this to 7v, my whole PC should be practically silent.
Good thing is i havent even noticed any temp increases either
