wiring disaster
i don't think this could be classed as a quiet rig (12 fans and all), but i noticed this ocforums thread today and had to share. it made me shudder.

well the entire thread is here - apparently that mess is for 12 fans, 3 cold cathode tubes and the inverters they run off.
several people gave suggestions, but i don't know what ended up happening. i just find the fan placements hilarious - there are 12 in there somewhere, presumably trapped inside the nest of wires.

Nice pictures of his 9800 Also apparenly has not 12 but 19 fans in there
I've actually tried that. As an experiment, I pulled off the side panel and aimed a very large, very fast, VERY LOUD pedestal fan directly into the computer... Had to be pushing a million CFM or more... lol.mathias wrote:If those overclockers have to use brute force cooling so much, why not just have one gigantic fan blowing air in from the side?

It has to be a massive corporate conspiracy!
I don't know if it worked or not, because the sonic boom from the fan blades knocked me out...
actually elsewhere on the forum a user fitted his case with an 1100 cfm ebm-papst monster - it completely emptied his case of dust, but the temperatures were the same as before the mod. there are apparently a few users there who've sought out 240mm and larger fans.
it got me thinking that i could start pulling radiator fans out of junked cars (1000+ cfm usually, and they run off 12vdc) and selling them to overclockers for $50+.
