My quiet rig :)

Post by nethaker » Mon Aug 29, 2005 4:29 am

Hello everyone !

In this topic I'd like to show that what I've been building for very long time. I think I built very quiet machine with a good performance.

Components:

AMD Athlon XP [email protected]
EPoX 8RDA3+ PRO
2x256MB Hynix + 256MB BH-6 working in dual channel mode
CWT 350W power supply
WD Caviar 80GB JB PATA
LG GSA-4163B & Lite-On 52246S working on newest firmware's
Chieftec Dragon Midi case

Cooling:

Thermalright SLK-900, Arctic Silver 5, GlacialTech Silent 7x7
Slowed stock VGA cooler with Arctic Silver 5
One Zalman 92mm fan working @ 5V cooling the VGA, one Chenri Electronics fan also 92mm working @ 7V, two Cooler Master fans 80mm; one cooling the HDD and one on the front.

The fans are controled by very cheap control panel - Sunbeam Rheobus.

I've also installed small heatsinks to improve the mosfets and pll chip cooling on my mobo, especialy when I'm putting up the cpu vcore :)

The chipset fan is diabled because of its noise :P I'm planning to put a Zalman NB-47J insteed.

The PSU cables are putted in a special plastic material :)

The temperatures :

cpu - idle - 35*C, stress (Stress Prime 2004) - 45*C
mobo - idle - 30*C, stress - 35*C
case - 19-21*C

Thanks for attention,

Nice work. Looks clean and quiet

I have an identical case.

You should really swap out the truepower fan with something else. You'll notice a difference.
Do you like the coolermasters you're running. i bet you can do a tiny bit better.

Other than that, it sounds like you're almost there. But in fact, none of us will reach that nirvana we call "silent" :)

nice red lights =)

well in fact many SPCRians and myself know how to build dead silent computers but just don't have the money and time for it. my own system is dead silent as long as your head isn't right next to the muffled notebook drive.

Hi guys !

Today I've prepared some updates :)

Here it goes :

Image

What I've changed ?

Front fan => removed white basket with 80mm CoolerMaster inside, installed quite popular in Poland, silent and cheap - Chenri Electronics 12cm fan working @ 7V

HDD removed from special basket which land in trash, putted on sponge to eliminate the terrible noise.

Motherboard fan completly removed. Maybe in future I'll be looking for a new one; 3pin (to regulate it by Sunbeam Rheobus), becase the old one was 2pin.

The machine became silent ! And I think it's almost ideal :)

Any suggestions ?
