Happy Happy Joy Joy

Post by Vernacular » Mon Mar 31, 2003 6:43 pm

Welp, I invested in the Nexus NX-3000 Power Supply and the Zalman 6000 Flower Heatsink/Fan. My PC is quieter than I ever dreamed of. I thank you all for the research and information found on this site. It aided me immensely.

My Specs:
AMD Thunderbird 1.1 Ghz
2 x Nvidia GeForce2 GTS (dual 21" monitor setup)
Creative Soundblaster X-Gamer
Nexus NX-3000 PSU
Zalman 6000 Heatsink
ABIT KT7A-RAID Motherboard

Sorry for the HUGE pics...

..and yes, I know the fan is on backwards in those pics. I remedied that situation shortly after the photos were taken.

Oh, I have a question too... the small ABIT motherboard fan that you see in the pic... is that necessary or can I remove it? I can't really say I hear it, but this got me into trimming the fat and was wondering if any harm would come if it went away.

Yes, remove it. Replace it with one of these. Those little screamer chipset fans will get to you after you start silencing the big stuff.

Also, while you're at it, blow the dust off your mobo :)

Just for the record if the holes match, I suggest the black heatsink since it makes full contact with the northbridge instead of the gold plated one, which is more flexible in hole mounting length, but does not make full contact with the northbridge (the heatsink is not flat on the bottom, it has adjustable mounts and the actual contact space is a rectangular shape that does not make full contact with the northbridge). The Gold heatsink is only PLATED in gold and is actually made of the same material (aluminum), so the black version of the heatsink should cool better.
