Here's my quick build of my stuff :D

Quote:

Any tips for tidying and such? Theres 2 zalman fan controls on the 9500 as I can hear it on low with 1. X1800XT has knob controller in pci slot.

Also with 3GHz OC from 2.4, the zalman 9500 can handle the heat, stabilising at 50C with no fan :)

22C idle

:D

Thats an E6600 ES or retail? :o

You might be able to wire under the motherboard if you get some cable extensions for the power cables.

And you could hide the extra PSU cables under that little space right under the PSU.

Good job!
Is it really possible to handle a 6600@3GHz with a Zalman CNPS9500 and NO FAN?

I want to put a similar config in a P150, i hope it work.

yes  no fan  weird. I even managed 3.6ghz 52C

You could run the fan at its lowest rpm so you cannot hear it at all even right against it, it brings down temps a lot without noise :D

I tried the fan pointing left and up and it gives better temps pointing up

Any tips to futher silence will be greatly appriciated :D hmm to close top fan off or not

I got mine from overclockers.co.uk to get one of the first :D

Wow, how much and where you picked it up?

You could probably switch to some Nexus fan and use speedfan to control the fan speed too.

I can never get speedfan to control my fans

Shame that the P5W doesnt have software to turn the fan on after a certain temp :( or i cant find it  my last board had that and it was awesome :D that way you can run passive with a safe guard :) or for when gaming

You didn't mention the rpm of case fans. If you are using the Tricools on low, many people on these forums would consider your setup loud.
And how hot does the 975X chipset get? I am considering a similar setup in a P150, but with TR SI-120 or SI-128 and Nexus fans.

My chipset seems to run between 45 and 50C  I have the tricools on low. It is sorta loud :(

I got speedfan controlling to work :D

Is it the zalman not too heavy for this motherboard? And is it compatible with the board without any modding?

Ehm, and yet another question, a little OT: do you know if it is possible to boot via EZ-Backup controller? I have two silent hd and wanna config them with a true hardware raid eheh :)

Thank you in advance! :D

Do I point zalman up or to the back :?:   :?: I need silence! :x gurr those tricools are noisy when case is closed

Zalman fits after screwing in bracket, not too heavy

The ezbackup thing is meant to boot so you can clone your hd to the other one :D or use them for double the space and speed

Graeme43, it would be nice of you to post an information: how many of the mobo's fan headers have rpm control? On my Asus A8N-SLI Dlx mobo only the CPU header has it.
From my experience the tricools aren't so good to control from the low setting (where they already are undervolted), they still make some noise but barely push air.
BTW, I'm surprised you can properly cool the X1800XT (rated by Xbitlabs at 103W) with the VF-900.

There is at least 6 fan headers and 1 is 4 pin

X1800XT maxes out at 58C on LOWEST fan speed! It idles around 40 The stock max was 82    and stock idle was 60

I have the cpu at 3ghz and the 9500s speed turned to the lowest possible rpm so it makes no sound :) CPU temps are very low and 20-22 idle

The tricools are barely pushing air. I have one on the HD and 2 rear. I don't think they all are needed  I'm trying to get the whole thing to be noiseless when there is no hd so that the only noise is the slight whine off the hd that P180 mutes really well! :D

Speedfan is able to control all 5 of the fan headers on the P5W DH Deluxe: CPU, Chassis1&2 and Power1&2. Both chassis and power fan headers are paired so that one setting controls a group of two. Hence one control changes the speed for chassis1 and chassis2 at the same time. This makes for a total of 3 independent speed controls.

EDIT: oops, made a mistake. chassis1&2 behave just like power1&2. one speed setting controls both of them.

Thanks for the info. I never used speedfan, only Asus' BIOS based Q-fan.
So it seems that one temperature reading controls all four fan headers.

All of those four (edit: five) headers I mentioned can be controlled from bios too. From AiBooster, one can select speeds for CPU and Chassis headers only. Too bad q-fan only offers three choices: silent, optimal and performance.

Tested with Nexus 120mm on CPU and Chassis header (bios v801):
Silent = ~700-750rpm
Optimal = ~850-900rpm (doesn't seem to matter what the cpu temp is, tried above 60C)
Performance = 1050rpm

IMO Speedfan offers far better control.

It's odd that Q-fan has these settings, on my mobo it just has a temp for max speed (set to 51C for 1,600 rpm).
I'm using a 92 mm Nexus on TR XP-90 and have right now CPU temp 39C and fan speed 835, which is almost silent (still has some bearing noise, maybe this Nexus is a dud? :? )
I am interested in very low noise at low load, like now, and getting the 120 mm Nexus fans, case and CPU (that I already bought for the new setup) to max speed at high load.

Graeme43, I still have a couple of questions about your mobo, if you don't mind: is it possible to remove the WiFi card that's on the topmost slot?
I have a 7900 GTX and it would block some hot airflow.
And how did you measure the chipset temps? The Asus probe is not exactly accurate.
Right now mine says 39C, but a thermal probe I have touching the HR-05 which cools my chipset says 42C.

The WiFi card is part of the metal plate of ports at the back and doesnt take up pci slots. It is removable. I used speedfan to get temps of NB but I also think they are inaccurate (says 50  )

Yes, comes off by removing one screw.

The chipset temp reported by the mobo is for the southbridge (48-50C on mine). The northbridge is somewhat hotter.

Thank you both for the information!
If I can find such a mobo with a Conroe supporting BIOS (I don't want to buy a Celeron just to flash the BIOS), I might get one next week.

Edited my original post since it had some errors.

I have sealed the top fan off as its not needed. I'm using a zalman quiet fan with sillicon mounts or something with the zalman fan controller, vf-900 with zalman fan controller and the cnps9500 with the resistor that came with the 120mm zalman fan. Hard drive is passively cooled in the top bay and stays around 37 :) lower chamber is used for unused psu cables

I think I'm going to get a nexus fan for exhaust because if I stop the 120mm there is no fan noise which is great :)

CPU idle = 22-24C, load stays under 40

4http://img134.imageshack.us/my.php?image=imag0012ef9.jpg

This is the quietest its ever been  once I thought it never turned on when I pressed the button

I also made an adaptor that allows the VF-900 to run from the X1800 fan port but I'd rather change it myself :D that was a waste of time

I have got a 4 pin atx extension in now which is not shown in the pictures
