Here's my latest build project (for my Dad). It's decently quiet because of the fans used (JMC, Vantec stealth) which are NOT all that quiet. The LX-6A19 was lined on the interior with Melamine foam with the interior (visible) side fiberglass sheet removed (bare foam). This made the foam much nicer to work with (no rashes!)

Fans: JMC 1225 (NOT L) connected to fanmate (5V). Vantec Stealth (12V).

Total cost: $1050.
It's quiet but not silent. It'll be fine for my Dad's lab/office. Pictures below.

The melamine foam makes a noticable difference, but does not make it silent. The primary noisemaker in this system is a tossup between the Vantec Stealth and the JMC fans. The JMC is at 5V on a fanmate so it's not too bad so long as you don't increase the voltage. The Stealth is at 12V and makes a racket. I don't have another fanmate or spare resistors handy or I'd shut it up properly. My dad says that as long as he can hear that it's on (so he doesn't forget to turn it off) he's happy. I'm still burning it in and stress testing it so I can't borg it for folding (yet)

All the power supply wires are stealthed behind the right-side panel and the exhaust fan wires and floppy cable are stealthed under the motherboard.

The Barton 2500+ is overclocked to 2.177GHz (3100+ speeds) at 1.66V core. I can't get the DDR to 400 because of the limitation of the motherboard. It uses % of FSB to determine DDR speeds. The BIOS jumps from 100% (DDR390) to 120% (DDR437) with nothing inbetween. The RAM won't do 437mhz so that's a bummer. I might back the FSB down and then bump up the RAM and do more testing. So far 10-hrs straight Memtest86 no errors.

Update:
After 4 hours of CPUBurn the CPU core temp never got above 109*F (41*C). Damn that's a cool chip!

1)Who cut out your fan grills? With what tool?

2)Your fans would probably be noticeably quieter if you pulled out those awful purple plastic brackets and mounted the fans directly to the case using some of those E.A.R. fan isolators.

1) I did, with a dremel tool. I know I could have done it cleaner but I was in a hurry.

2) Yeah I know, but this is my dad we're talking about here. It would be much easier for him to remove these fans instead of trying to remove fan isolators.
