I was very intrigued by SPCR SilverStone Temjin TJ08-E: MicroATX Evolved Review and with Asus releasing a the maximus gene Z micro atx, decided build around those two components, here a list of whats inside,

As a final comment, while im still testing, i really liked the Noiseblocker fans, even at 900rpm they are fairly quiet (not silent), much more than the frontal 180mm, although at 1500rpm the Noiseblockers are fairly nosiy, still testing with the bios pwm control to lower them more, but its much quieter than my antec 1200 + 6 Gentle Typhoons. Also very impressed with the Galaxy GTX580, with the artic cooling Acelero Xtreme Plus, its very quiet (again not silent), comes from factory at 30% and doesn't ramp up till very high (i believe 72C), i tested till 60C and still at 30% fan speed, you can tweak it with MSI Afterbuner to ramp up faster.

Overall very pleased with the build, will post more stuff once i manage to get some free time.

Have you tried running it without the CPU fan and/or the exhaust fan? Since the HR-02 is made with low airflow in mind, as you say, maybe the front fan would be enough to provide decent cooling.

Nope, sry i havent tried it to run only with the frontal fan, i find the noiseblockers very quiet, and this is a gaming rig, probably will end up OCing when needed. And TBH the only fan that i didnt like on the build was the frontal 180mm fan, even at low (the switch on the side) 900RPM its noisy, not that much but a low end gruwl, so i added a fanmate2, i have lowered to 600rpm where its very quiet, but doesnt move as much air, so the internal fans while might not be needed, i prefer it.

But i did see a post from someone that its doing it, in case you are interested, here are pics from his build, and and an answer from a query about his temps.

I'd try without the front fan at all.

I'm looking to build a similiar system only with a 2600k and GTX 580 with stock cooler. I'm hoping to keep a rock stable 24/7 4ghz overclock without too much noise and heat. I want a matx mini tower, i was leaning towards an Antec mini p180, and I'm considering a Sugo SG04, but this Temjin one might be it. Keeping a 4ghz CPU cool next to such a hot GPU in matx mini tower seems like a tough proposal.

I was wondering if you had any idea of how much the system IDLEs at without the GPU and do you know if the CPU itself IDLEs at same value as i3-2100t? I'm thinking about going with a CPU with low IDLE consumption yet 4 cores... Something like the i5-2500k, i5-2405S or the i5-2400...

Main use would be transcoding video, fileserver, Everyday tasks and gaming(I will probably add a ASUS 6850 which has an IDLE consumption of 15W)...

I have my machine running almost all day when I'm at home and awake (8 hours) a day sometimes more, and I can't justify also having a NAS running 24/7 which i barely use which is why I'm thinking of just running the file server part on the machine itself which I hopefully also can access remotely by waking it up (WOL/WOW)...

Would love to hear your idea...

With that motherboard, computer case and CPU heatsink, will a Thermalright Shaman be compatible?

Note that the Shaman’s screw heads are tall. My fear is that they may conflict with the HR-02.

Sorry was on working trip for a month and half, and havent done much work on it,

Still at stock speeds, i found the frontal fan way to noisy for my liking even at low setting (900rpm), the GeneZ doesnt allow to undervolt it too easy.... either was 900 or 300 which was too low for decent cooling, and im trying to avoid the Asus AI Suite cause it has issues with other meters that i like to use more, so i installed a Zalman Fanmate2 and manage to tweeak it down to 650rpm , atm still testing as the temps went up a little, so i havent OC yet, not to worry atm since all i play is SC2 and even at stock speeds the cores dont get loaded. But im interested into doing OCing and doing some benches just gotta find some free time... atm too busy with work.

Hard to say, really depends on the height of the screws, a GPU without BP will have around 5mm from the HR02 to the board, mine is almost touching cause of the Backplate the Galaxy comes with that takes almost 5mm.



All sandy bridge cpus downclock to 1600mhz, and i read (havent tested) that all have similar idle, i would expect the quads to have a little higher since more cores, but should be low still, if you need the quad go for it, its a great cpu.

Im backwards of what you want, i prefer to have dedicated for each task, although my server isnt on full time, mostly on the weekends and when im doing backups or ripping my movies. But it could work.... just know that each hdd you have will increase you conmsuption, my past atom 510 server used to idle around 20W, now with 4 hdds is around 35, so more hdds you add will start increasing your idle, unless you spin them down.

It can be that screws conflict with HR-02. However, I've been thinking Shaman in that case may not work well. Its fan would be close to top of the case.

Hey Abula, what are your power measurements? Just like how you posted them for your other computer, I'd be curious to see that.

Sure, ill post some, i didnt do it, cause this build wasnt aimed into low power usage, but ill do some tests and post some pics. The only problem is that GTX580 has like a fail safe with furmark, so i could run idle and prime95, or you want another?

Ok here are the results, everything is at stock clocks,

Idle after 5min (not doing anything at all, but a lot of usb are plugged, like keyboard, mouse, Blue yeti, G13, laser printer)



Load with Prime95 (same as the above connected)



In case you are interested, this were the temps on prime95 large FFTs, 30mins ambient 18C.



If you were expecting lower idle, like the MiniMi build, remember this has a GTX580 even at idle low clocks it consumes a lot and the PSU isn't as efficient as picoPSU at low loads, but this build wasn't meant for power saving, but for gaming.

I gotta admit, I was a bit surprised. Certainly, I knew this build is intended for gaming, and I wasn't expecting the power to be similar to your MiniMi, but I didn't expect it to get quite that high. I had expected the idle to be around 50W. I guess I strongly underestimated the power draw of the 580.

Remember the mini build has nothing plugged aside from power cord and the network cable, no monitor, no mouse, no keyboard, when i installed windows i watch the power draw at idle on MiniMi with all that plugged, and it pulled it up to 20W or so, so the Micro build has all those things attached atm + extra keyboard (G13) + extra USB mic (Blue Yeti) + laser printer (HP1015), my guess is that at least 10W comes from from all the USB stuff plugged, maybe a little more on the fans since they are running higher also, and triple fans on the Galaxy GTX580 aside from pure idle.. which should be like 20W or more, also im using a Seasonic X660 even though its gold rated, it might not be as efficient on lower load as the pico. But again the builds are for different purposes, im ok with both builds as they are, i droped down on consumption of my X58/1366 build that used to idle at 130W and load close to 500W, so there were saving still =).

Abula, that build looks awesome! I really like the aesthetics of the case, and that's about inline with what I want to build. A high end gaming rig that's quiet (not necessarily silent).
