I am currently building this system, its not fully done yet but heres the first pic.

I am using 3570K, noctua NH-u12pse with scythe PWM fan, as exhaust also a scythe pwm fan on the OPT cpu fan header. Still have to decide what intake fans I will use. The gfx card is the Asus GTX670.

All I can say wow its so quiet, even under load! CPU prime temps with the PWM fans on 600RPM did not go higher then 52°

Going to do some sleeving now and post more info and pics later.

Theres still some things I wanna do better before I start sleeving everything :

Since I work at a PC store I can easily swap some stuff without needing to pay for everything.

The current PWM slipstreams tend to tick a little especially since they run so slow 300/400 IDLE 600max at full load prime. If anyone knows equals to the slipstreams I can buy and test let me know, but I don't know if theres any equal ones that can spin down that much. I still wanna test if the ticking can be heard at night when close to the PC.

Still need to see what intake fan I wanna use. Any advice for this would be nice.

The GPU is quiet but I might wanna go Accelero Twin Turbo II on a GTX670, haven't decided. Furmark got it to 70° max on 1080P benchmark, the fan only went up 300RPM from the starting 1100 it idles on. Idle temps are between 30/40°.

For the PSU, since the system is so silent sometimes you can hear a pitch whine if you listen closely to PSU. I still wanna test this at night and see if you can hear it when I'm sitting about 1M from the PC. If so I might wanna try the Kingwin/Superflower Golden king 550W.

Those are some great temps. Have you tried the stock fans to see how they sound?

I was wondering if you get any airflow out of the slipstreams at 300rpm...is that the point when they are inaudible to you over the gpu fan? Or, maybe you can just have the min set at 500rpm or so and hopefully, the tick will disappear.

I didn't test the stock fans sadly :( went right away to the scythe ones.

Well like I said my assembly table is not a "silent room" so I have to listen closely when I assemble and test with prime/furmark etc.

But yea at 300/400 RPM the GPU is slightly more tonal then the fans, though when I prime small the CPU fan & exhaust are a touch louder then the GPU. Also the ticking you can hear if you listen closely. Even at 600RPM they "tick" its not really loud but its there.

Have to test all the noise and stuff at night in my PC room, then ill be able to say how quiet this PC is. I doubt I will be able to hear the scythe fans from 1.5meter away even if they tick a little. The corsair case should muffle this out.

Yea the temps are great everything is running stock, the max temps I saw was around 53° on all cores during a 3hour prime small test. And thats with no intake fan and only 2 scythe PWM fans ramping up till max 600!

Why not try the Noctua NF-P12 PWM model, nominal range 300 to 1300 http://www.noctua.at/main.php?show=prod ... g=en&set=1.

Yea guess I will have to if I wanna get away from the clicking :(

I woulda rather had black fans :D Yeye I know but aesthetics :D

Gonna try em tomorrow

Oh wait I have one at home :D Tested the NF model now and ye that one doesn't click. Might switch over to the noctuas then :( kinda wanted black fans prrt. Well that problem is solved then.

Now I just need to swap the PSU, I just did some more stress test in a silent room. The platinum seasonic version makes a high pitch noise sometimes and when it starts to do it I have to do a power cycle till it goes away. Gonna order the Superflower/Kingwin Platinum 550W instead.

Hey np steve :D You should really go for the kingwin/superflower yea, probably the best PSU for silent PC/gaming rig

I'm just impressed with the CPU temps you are seeing in this case with IVB. They seem more like you'd see in SNB. Have you tried any OC'ing @ stock voltage?

Well IVB at stock does not run hotter then an I5 2500K. If you ask me it runs even cooler.

At first I had something like 58° on full load with panels closed and no intake even... after couple reseats the maximum was 53°. Idles around 30/35°

The GPU idles between 30° & 40° and does not get hotter then 70° (dno if thats good or not, but the sink is really hot to touch at that point).

Thanks,

I am trying to finish the build this weekend and will post some pics & benches/prime95/furmark tests and temps also.

Going to replace the Seasonic with a Kingwin, I should have it today or tomorrow.
Replacing fans also not 100% sure yet, trying to see what intake I will use also.
And I might replace the GFX card cooler but I doubt it.

Greetz and cu later!

If the current gpu cooler is quiet enough, I wouldn't bother replacing it as 70C is excellent.

The superflower/kingwin just arrived!

How would you mount it in the corsair 550D? With the fan so you can see it or the other way around?

Well, the fan will never turn on...so it probably doesn't matter.

Mount it with the fan on the bottom. The other way would have the non detachable cable in the wrong posibition.

Yea I mounted it with fan on bottom, doing some stress tests now and checking out the noise. Still have to replace fans to the ones I like.
Will post pics later.

Heres an update:

I replaced the PSU with the Superflower golden king 550w, I could not be happier with it.

I am testing various fans and should know by tonight what configuration I am going to use fan wise.

As for the GPU I don't know anymore, I tested 2 from our store both had enormous squealing. These were the Gigabyte 670 and the Asus.

Was the GPU squealing with the Superflower or with the other PSU...cause they may or may not squeal with the new PSU...it's a YMMV thing. If you have access to the MSI GTX 670 PE, you could try it out. From reviews, it looks like it's tuned more for great cooling than for noise...but you could tune the fan profile and see if it suits.

Squealing could be caused by motherboard as well... It the mobo/PSU/gpu combo that causes this I believe

Well I tested the Asus GTX 670 with 3 diffrent PSU's (Seasonic Platinum and X1050 and the kingwin), and with an asus motherboard and a gigabyte. I also tested a gigabyte 670, it even had more squaeling the the Asus.

Also tested it in another system (older) and it did exact the same. Also asus motherboard and seasonic PSU.

I mean ur not gonna tell me all asus mobo's are making the GFX squeal? I think its just the GPU's itself that makes it squeal at loads...

A lower performance GPU doesnt squeal... ye ofc it uses alot less power but still.

I will test some more cards ton8, eventually I could test another motherboard... Anyone who can recommend what board to test for Z77? But I mean asus uses all good components it would be funny if all there motherboards made a GPU squeal at full load.

Its kinda annoying when building a quiet system. The noise is just sooo annoying.

Ok so I brought home 4 cards.

2x Asus GTX670 1x Gigabyte GTX670 1x Sapphire 7870

All of these I tested with a Asus motherboard and 4 different PSU's!

All of them had some kind of coil whine when I start to run Crysis and play it. In Furmark there is no squealing just fan noise.

3Dmark also gave a small squealing enough to be annoying when you make a silent rig.

The only thing that could cause the squeal is the motherboard but I really really doubt it. I am going to test with a gigabyte motherboard now... but I doubt it will make any difference, I don't know what to do anymore actually.

Update: Gigabyte motherboard does pretty much the same so it aint the mobo's causing it. I will test some other PSU's together with the gigabyte just to be 100% sure.

@Steve I can test the MSI later this week at the store, its in a PC there that we sell.

Ok so I did some tests with another motherboard, gigabyte Z77 UD5

I used an Asus GTX670 and tested 3 Seasonic PSU's and one Corsair AX850.

On all of the test with any GPU and any PSU as soon as I start Crysis or any other stressing game/benchmark the GPU and PSU start to squeal. I still have to test if my Kingwin is also squealing.

I hounestly don't know what to do anymore :)

Let's look outside the box...maybe it's a poor ground path...
- how clean is your AC from the wall? Are you running directly from the wall or through a UPS? Whatever the method...try the other and see if it affects the results.
- does your home/wall socket have decent ground/earthing?
- heck, is your wall socket wired correctly? :D

It has nothing to do with that. My electricity at home is as good as it can be.

There is no way around this squealing, I am 100% sure if you would load crisis on your PC you would get the same. Actually if you mind testing it for me do it please, download the crisis 2 demo (open your PC case and listen next to the VGA). You won't even need to play it. It will squeal no mather what hardware you have, its just that it gets such high frames that it squeals. For example in furmark I get no squealing... but in 3Dmark and crisis 2 I do get it..

Ok - I killed some time and downloaded the demo. Then got stuck with a full screen disappearing mouse pointer bug at the registration screen and gave up. I did notice some minor squeal during the tutorial video.

Like I said its normal in that demo and with some benchmarks apparently. All that testing because I didn't knew that :D

Btw for steve, I was so nice to test a MSI GTX670 for you! No squealing (only in crisis and 3Dmark) and I must say the card was nice when playing with the fan speeds a little. Though at stock its not as quiet as the Asus but imo the gigabyte version is the best stock card you can get. Maybi the best would be an Asus GTX670 with the bios modded for idle fan speed to like 700 or less. The asus card idle between 1000/1100 while the gigabyte goes a lot lower. At load the gigabyte showed same temps around 70°/72° but was a tad louder.

Still I wanna try a stock GTX 670 and slap an accelero with 2 low 120MM's zip tied or a twin turbo( never used one before so I don't know how the fan speed works on those and the noise lvls).

I am going to finish my build this weekend and will post some pics later, still don't know what GPU I will use got many to choose from in our store anyway :D so I will test around some.

And for fans probably going to go with the noctua's. 2x NF-P12 PWM for CPU & Exhaust, though using it on exhaust causes a little more noise because of the "fan grill" on the case. For intake I really don't know what I wanna use, I guess 1 fan will be enough to blow on the video card a little also. Without an intake the CPU goes to max load of 53°/54° and thats with the noctua's not spinning higher then 600RPM. And yes thats with the case closed. Its virtually silent without a GPU, you could make a system dead silent even at night.

Thanks for all your video card tryouts :D

The GTX 670s are nice...just too expensive and maybe a tad overkill for my needs. I wish the damn GTX 660's were out to provide competition to the HD 7850s. If I were to go for a video card today, I'd go for the MSI R7850 PE with Twin Frozr 4. I almost bought the non-PE version today for $209 after MIR. tempting.

Intake fan - with your CPU temps, only two reasons for an intake fan:
- positive pressure/less dust inside the case
- drives need cooling
- ok three; more airflow toward the GPU.

A GTX670 is way to much power for my needs also. I will be looking into something different don't know what though..

The MSI ur saying is kinda loud at stock, at least in reviews I'm reading.

I think I will play leagueoflegends, CS GO, and maybe some WoW and thats about it.

I will just an intake for the GPU, probably a noctua aswell.
