AOPen Silent Power

Post by lightforce » Sun Jan 18, 2004 11:37 am

Ok I still haven't made up my mind about which case to buy.
Some recommend "CI-6A21" but then they say the PSU should be replaced.
Some recommend Antec Sonata, same thing there, there's a lot of threads about people replacing the PSU.

What do you think about this one:

AOPen Silent Power. This is a new version of H600B.

It comes with a PSU: FSP350-60PN(PF)

From what I understand that's the same as in the Fortron which a lot of people recommend?

Here's more info:

350w
1st, 120x120x25 mm
Yate Loon, D12SM-12

If this PSU is using the very same fan that's being used by Fortron isn't that a damn good fan for a psu that comes with the case from the beginning?

Someone said:

"Well, I'm feeling left out -- the Fortron P300XFPN (with the 120mm Yate Loon fan) isn't on the list! By all accounts, it may be the 2nd or 3rd quietest PS out there; with only the SilenX 14dBA and 18dBA (possibly) models being quieter. "

And from what I understand that's the same Yate Loon fan used here.

Here's a link to two reviews of the above case (in swedish unfortunately)

http://www.sweclockers.com/html/recensi ... php?page=1

quote from review:

"One of the absolutely most quiet PSU I've ever heard, modified included. Very impressive"

http://www.nordichardware.se/recensione ... /index.php

"The PSU is very special, it comes with a 120mm fan instead of a 80mm fan. That along with PFC and soundlevelcontrol makes it run very quiet, you can hardly hear it"

Absolutely nothing wrong with the PSU in the CI-6A21. The one I bought exhibits a (very) slight ticking noise at low fan speeds -- which was remedied by an ADDA fan -- but there is a big chance this noise will be masked by other components. It's also a good case overall.

The Aopen 350W PSU is very quiet at idle, provided its not under load or reaches hot temperatures. If you don't have alots of peripherals putting drain / load on your PSU, it should be very very quiet.

AOpen PSUs have for long time been rebranded Fortron PSUs. I'm not sure whether this is the case with the above supplies, but I'd imagine yes.
