Unfortunately Smokeey, what you say is a fact of life today. A majority of consumers are concerned with appearance first, with maybe price a close second........everything else is a distant third. Build what you think people will buy, drives all manufacturers, with only a few exceptions.
Marketing design, qualtity, utility....even quietness where SPCR is concerned....rarely sells computers(IMHO). Only a few mfgs pay more than lip-service to noise. I suppose Dell markets quietness, but I think to them it just means fewer fans.
I can tell you a story of a Datsun B210 of a few years ago. A cheap little economy car, available in several versions. There was a stripped-down really cheap version, and several fancier models. What happened? Nobody bought the cheap model......even though it was the same car, same engine and trans, but without any frills, no chrome etc. Datsun/Nissan learned a lesson, and never made a really cheap model again. When asked about this, they say "We let other mfgs go after that market". Meaning....We think people most people go for the "glitter". Or something like that.
