I've mounted hard drives in two older cases that lack the new 3 1/2" rails all the way to the bottom by putting aluminum extrusions along the sides as heat sinks, then holding them down to the bottom front behind the intake fan on foam strips with stretchy cord.
But now I have a new case that has the new rails. The rails will both prevent me from using heat sinks along the side (copper this time) and from using a flexible mount. I'll need to keep at least the top part of the rails for the floppy drive.
How have others solved this obstacle?
