Nexus iStyle case now at Silicon Acoustics

Post by Ginta » Sat Feb 01, 2003 11:57 pm

Does anyone actually own this case? And could you post any experiences with it?
I'm interested in buying one but it looks like it has some ventilation issues, and it's $155 w/o PSU. Here's some interesting claims.

Yeah, I too would be curious to hear about experiences with the Vivid/iStyle. I thought it'd be a nice upgrade to my seriously-flawed-in-the-cooling-department-without-modding AOpen HX-08 tower. Deals with the Nexus PSU are very tempting. I'd want the version with the two CD drive covers, but I can only find the single version in the UK.

Certainly looks great. :)

Can't use a Zalman Flower fan assembly with it though because of the PCI slot cover things. Hmm.

From most reviews I've read the Zalman flower design is quiet, but you can do measureably better with a massive Alpha or Swiftech heatsink and a quiet Panaflo fan. I went with a Alpha for my Athlon XP 1700+ and it's worked out quite well. However I suppose if you ducted the Zalman like in Rusty's desk pc you might get better results.

I've actually seen this particular case at the local Fry's Electronics and the external plastic shell is fairly heavy to dampen noise, and the metal frame is of good quality thick metal. Silicon Acoustics mini review is the best "review" I've found on the net so far. Directron has some good hi-res pictures posted in their forums awhile back. I'm hoping to find someone review it with the objectivity of silence in mind before plunking down that much for a case.

I've bought one.

Hey.
I live in sweden, and I bought a case called "Suntek Miditower TH-655" yesterday. (but I havn't got it yet, it take some days to get it by mail..)
I bought it over the internet, at a place called "komplett".
link:
http://www.komplett.se/k/ki.asp?action= ... pID=6&s=pl

and the link to the case itself:
http://www.suntek.co.uk/en/vivid/overview.html

it seems like it's almose (but just almost) the same case, but is's made by a company called "suntek".

strange.

Tom's Hardware just did a review on this case and a sister aluminum model.

This one is made by "Atech", although I believe they all are coming from the same unnamed OEM manufacture in China.

nengtyi

The Nexus site, nexustek.nl, says its some kinda partner with 'neng tyi', which has its own website, www.nengtyi.com.tw, and says it has 'manufacturing sites in china in taiwan'. They also have a link to their 'istyle' case

http://www.nengtyi.com.tw/Webezc/code/m ... yle%20Case

A nexus istyle is coming here from siliconacoustics within the next few days/weeks. maybe RaffeS and i could compare notes

Hmm I wonder if Suntek is the 'nameless OEM in China'? They seem to have a variety of case colors available (click the 'pictures' button in RaffeS link, above). However neng tyi/nexus seem to be only silver. Check out sunteks site, www.suntek.co.uk, and click on 'company', then 'profile', then 'factory tour'!!! They are in ShenZhen, Guangdong, China. I do believe those folks are handling cases in that photo.

got the case...

Post by RaffeS » Sun Feb 16, 2003 10:15 am

well, got my case yesterday, and i think i'm satisfied. it costed me 1200 sek (about 120 dollars).
It's a nice case, but I'll have to handle it with care (think that shiny surface is going to be scratched if i just look at it)

so, buy it. :)

Two questions - how do you eject the CD with that cover in the way?

and Anyone know where you can get one in europe?

Directron carries the older version of this case in blue, black and silver. http://store.yahoo.com/directron/aft6551.html These don't have the 2 cdrom doors and the front audio ports. Price has drop some what, used to be in the $150+ range.

jhh, see the nexus site here http://www.nexustek.nl/Nexus_shops.htm for a list of europe resellers.
