Acoustic Foam Barrier

Post by Bluefront » Sun Apr 13, 2003 1:27 pm

Here's my latest attempt at an internal acoustic barrier. Works pretty good. I don't have a good way to measure sound levels, but as you attach the panels with the computer running, there is a drastic noise reduction......more so than just the case panel installed.

The foam came from Home Depot. You get two pieces about 18"x9"x3/4" and the stick-on plastic channel. These are intended as side pieces for a window air conditioner. Cost about $12...

The foam is held in place by the channel, being fairly stiff holds itself in place without any other attachment. It pulls right out easily for access to the computer. Those foam pleats on the inside cause sound waves to bounce around and be reduced....

This is an easy mod and worth a try....Pictures:

Home Depot to the rescue! This gives me two things to checkout Monday (the 2x2 closed cell material in the carpet dept.).

Thanks,
Jim

FWIW....that blue stuff on the bottom of the case in the last two pictures, is the 2x2 foam stuff you're talking about...
