Enclosures and acoustic damping to help quiet them.

SLK3700... sideways?

Post by casio ortega » Wed Apr 09, 2003 12:11 pm

I'm looking for a case with front & rear 120mm fans and really like the SLK3700 (or equivalent) however it's too tall for my constraints. I'm considering buying it anyway and laying it sideways on some sort of thin pad to reduce vibration noise. Anyone suggestions as to why that's a stupid idea?

I've read the "cases with 120mm fans" thread without seeing anything else that looked ok with dual 120mm fans. Any suggestions on a case shorter than 17.4" or 435mm with dual 120mm fans?

You will probably loose some of the natural airflow. Hot air rises...

The Antec Sonata is somewhat smaller maybe it will fit your needs/space?

Does it hold 2 120mm fans? I guess I'm also a little reluctant to spend the extra $$ on the case. Thanks for the suggestion. BTW, they're selling the Sonata at Best Buy now - thought that was interesting

Yep, Best Buy sells Antec cases. Of course they also want a 25% premium over what you can get them for on the net. Shipping is a consideration though.

Sonata does have 2 120mm fan mounts.

And it's shorter than 17.4"

Here's the dimensions from Antecs' site: 16.75"(H) x 18.25"(D) x 8.13"(W).

Here's a brand new review of the Sonata. It's fairly well done but keep in mind that, A) he is using fairly loud HDDs, and B)his idea of quiet may not be the same as ours here at SPCR. Otherwise it's a pretty decent review.
