Hi!

Here is an idea. I have a case with 80mm exhaust fan. I can dremel it to 90mm max. Let's say I do not do it but I try using a 120mm fan with a fan adapter instead. Attach a fan adapter 80->120mm to the outside of the case and then put a low speed 120mm onto it.

Did someone try this? Would it work better than 80 or 90mm fan directly attached?

92mm fans arent really worth the added cost, plus they are fairly rare.

I'd go with the 80mm or maybe a 92mm if you can find a good one.

It is not really heavy, is it? And I do not think the case would bend because of the weight of one fan. No, really, I do not think that would be a problem.

I have currently a Papst NGL doing a decent job (80 mm). I am hesitating between either cutting the case and buying a 90mm Papst or not cutting the case and buying a 120 mm + adapter. I would rather not cut the case on the premise of being lazy. OTOH, 120mm Papst costs 25 euro here - the cost not to be discounted...

THe only thing I can think would be a problem is the wind noise of the 120mm pulling through a 80mm hole.

I think I am going to try it but a priori I can counter that As you know, the central part of the fan is occupied by its hub. Therefore the actual "surface" of the hole where the air passes is smaller than it would be if the fan did not occupy the hole. I am thinking that it will probably be about equal to a 8/9 cm hole without a fan...
