I found out something awkward today, don't know if it is know among other silent/quiet pc enthusiasts.

my current setup contains:
-Antec Solo with 1200rpm slipstream slim rear fan
-Scythe Katana 3 CPU Cooler
-Corsair VX450
-AC Accelero Twin Turbo (at 7v)

basically what I've found is that normally I can hear a wooshing sound coming from the chasis. I'm not good at describing noise characteristics nor have precise instruments to record the noise but it basically sounds like what you hear with wind blowing past your ears.

Today I felt like making 100% sure that I know which fan is making that noise before I buy new part for my PC.

So I removed the side panel and... the wooshing sound disappears, noise from my pc suddenly became much more tolerable. I put the side panel back in and the wooshing sound returns.
Note that I could hear the wooshing noise before I have swapped out the antec tricool with the slipstream slim, so it doesn't appear to have much to do with the scythe fan.

any ideas?

I had the same problem with the SOLO. Had to turn down the exhaust fan <800 RPM.

My Solo produces a humming sound with the side panel on. I solved it by wrapping a piece of foam around the power supply support beam to push against the side panel to make it a tighter fit.

bought a fan controller, arrived today, adjusted the slim fan to <700 rpm, no more wooshing sound

Try ripping off the Turbo module and run a slow 92/120mm fan in front of it (in the drive bays?), like I did here.

80mm fan in the suspension bands, awesomely creative

my plan is to get a passive card in my next upgrade tho.

Actually its a 92mm. You could try stuffing a 120mm against the drive cage and zip tying it on somehow.

An Accelero S1 is perhaps the best passive cooler out there, your better off purchasing the cooler & card separately (unless theres a combo from a manufacturer out there) for optimal cooling performance. Most likely you can reuse the cooler once you upgrade your card
