Do cases with dampening panels make that much difference?

Would a case with dampening panels be much quieter than a case with a window and dampening panels fitted on the metal parts? I want a quiet system but i also like being able to see my hardware. It just looks so much cooler.

They make a big difference if you have any vibration in the case. My p150 and 180 are quieter than my CM 690, which just has flimsy metal side panels with no dampening.

are you doing the window yourself? if so, go with thicker acrylic and the weight will act as damping.

this does leave your other panels light though, so maybe pick up an AcoustiPack EXTRA Sheet for the other areas.

if youre buying a case with a window installed... it depends. it might be very well done, and enough for you, or it might be crap. if its not good enough, you can still buy a nice thick sheet of acrylic, and some 3m 4010 mounting tape.

thick acrylic=5mm+

I was gonna buy a pre-installed window case. I like the acrylic idea. Think i'll do that. I could get clear blue acrylic as well and that'd make it look even better.

Windowed cases and quiet PC's don't really get along well. Acrylic windows are usually very lightweight, brittle and not secured very well. This means they will likely transmit vibrations quite well. You can selective dampen the panel with some cut-and-stick matting, but depending on how large the windows is, this may not be very effective.

Besides, windows and LEDs are so 2004! 8)

Consider where your case will be located and if you will actually be able to see your hardware. For me, once I got into Quiet Computing, I began to start wanting my PC to be invisible as well as inaudible, but that's just me.

To each his own...

I like the look of hardware. I used to collect circuit boards as a kid. Just thought they looked cool. I'm not a big fan of LEDs but i love my cathode lights. Have some installed behind the mesh on the front and it glows blue.

Maybe this is O/T, but ever realize the irony of talking about how important something looks is to someone with your handle?

Do they increase the temperature at all?

I was thinking of adding them to the RV03.
