Affect of Damping Materials on Cooling

Post by Cod » Sun Sep 09, 2012 11:50 am

My system is pretty quiet as is and I'm just looking for a way to put it "over the top". I was thinking about adding some absorption material (http://www.silverstonetek.com/product.p ... 70&area=en), but I'm unsure how the material will affect the overall cooling of the system. My knowledge of physics tells me that I'll be dealing with a little more heat since the inside of the case will no longer be completely aluminum. How much added heat are we talking though? Anyone have any experiences?

Thanks.

if you've been following the general SPCR thinking of minimizing the restriction of airflow in your case...then insulation will effect temps about as much as an insulated house with the front and back doors open, compared to an uninsulated one with the doors open too.. (unless the sun regularly beats down on your case (if its black), then temps might be a bit lower with the insulation. :D
