FD Define R4 airflow thru bottom vents when on a rug?

Enclosures and acoustic damping to help quiet them.

FD Define R4 airflow thru bottom vents when on a rug?

Post by cyberman999 » Tue Sep 02, 2014 9:29 pm

I've been thinking of replacing my antec p150 with a Fractal Design Define R4 (for bigger and power hungrier video cards), but I haven't been able to find out if there will still be enough air flow when its put on a rug. Is this going to be a problem?

The usual solution is this situation is to buy a shelf of the right size from a DIY store and use it as a hard surface between the case and the carpet. Apart from avoiding any issues with airflow it should also mean that the bottom filter will need little or no additional cleaning.

I'd prefer Lodestars solution, but you could just see to it, that you raise the case by mounting different stands, replacing the rather flat original rubber ones. Combining both doesn't hurt either.

computers on floors=dust.
computers on carpets=more dust.
computers with bottom intakes placed on carpets=even more dust.

build a 6-10" riser to get it out of the dust zone

Oh. Of course. *facepalm* Why didn't I think of that?
