Which case: Corsair 550D or Antec P183?

Enclosures and acoustic damping to help quiet them.

Which case: Corsair 550D or Antec P183?

Post by Roger Wilco » Sat Feb 08, 2014 8:45 pm

Looking for a new mid-range gaming build. I have used P180B, P182 and P183 before and I think it is one the best quality and silent cases I have ever used.

The reason I am also considering the Corsair 550D now is that it appears to have somewhat better cooling capacity than the P183. I normally buy Intel CPU's for their performance per watt but I have an AMD FX-8350 with Gigabyte MB as a gift from a friend.

I am concerned that the heat of an AMD FX-8350 combined with an MSI GTX 760 may be difficult to cool quietly in a P183. The Corsair 550D looks very nice, but I still really like the P183 as it does not use any foam and has a very robust build quality. I do not intend to run any SLI setup or use any card with a TDP higher than the GTX 760.

What do you guys think, should I stay with the P183 or should I get the Corsair 550D?

Many thanks in advance!

The 550D is also far better workable: about build quality and overall noise level, I think the P183 is still better (and about build quality by far).

IME/IMO the P183 can handle that combo absolutely flawlessly.

Thank you for your advice, I decided to try the build in the P183. I noticed that the PSU intake for the 550D is at the bottom, since I have thick carpet everywhere, the P183 should work better there.

It does look like the 550D is an easier case to work in like you mentioned, but if the P183 can cool the FX-8350 and GTX 760 without issues, I will be very happy.

Thanks!
