Insulation material for a big case

Post by halcyon » Mon Sep 29, 2003 9:33 am

I have a new full tower (Chieftech DA-01BD) that I need to pad for sound absorption / damping:

http://www.chieftec.com/products/dragon/da01wd.htm

It is big. Dimension: 470x 205x 670mm (DxWxH).

I'm looking for material that comes in big enough form that fits this case and provides:

- heavier part for vibration damping
- lighter sound absorping part for sound absorbtion of high frequency sounds (preferably with a patterned/uneven surface (like AcoustiPack)
- no bitumen smell or funny odors
- available within the EU

Does anybody know of any good material/kits?

In the end I will make my own composite, if I can't find one, but I'd really like to save time on this by buying a good kit.

I've already ruled out materials like Magic Fleece (not enough damping/absorbtion), Akasa Paxmate (useless in every regard), Coolputer heavy combo (has an aluminium foil surface that conducts and reflect, not nice), etc.

Melamine seems to be very hard to find locally in consumer amounts and it does not provide damping.

Any tips?

regards,
Halcyon

Now why did you have to be dissin' the pax.mate? It's cheap, and it works well enough. ;)

I was considering getting the carpet backing foam/rubber stuff. Maybe you should look into that?

I've used the PowerSnooze Acoustic Material Kit and found it to be quite good.

And that page is the UK distributor page. :)

i've also seen some packs especially made for the chieftec cases.
I thought Noiseblocker.de has them.
But I dont know how they perform. I'm planning to buy some so I'd like to get some more ideas about good materials in the EU.

you can find 3 brands on this page

I know noiseblokcer has some nice silent products like casefans, so I wonder how there damping materials are...
