Quick question about ATC-620 case and ZM80C-HP

Enclosures and acoustic damping to help quiet them.

Quick question about ATC-620 case and ZM80C-HP

Post by Fabool » Fri Oct 17, 2003 12:37 pm

I'm on the verge of getting this case but there's one thing that I'm unsure about.
Can this case fit a Zalman ZM80C-HP heatpipe mounted on a Radeon 9700/9600? It would seem like a very tight fit from the few images I'm trying to compare.

When looking at the images of the 610 case at newegg (620 isn't listed, but the 610 is essentially the same case), it looks like the top of the case might interfere with the heatsink: http://www.newegg.com/app/Showimage.asp ... 018-07.JPG

This is the Sapphire 9800 ultimate version, the standalone ZM80C-HP has even bigger thumbscrews holding those two plates which surely won't fit in the case.

How essential are those two screw held plates on top of the heatsink? It would at least fit nicely without those screws and plates sticking out.

Hope someone can answer this question :?

if you look at an installation guide video on zalman's site http://www.zalman.co.kr/english/product/ZM80C-HP.htm, it seems to imply that the cross-connecting pieces are important to keep the two plates aligned with each other and rigidly stable.

looking at the pictures of the case you have chosen, i'd worry about the airflow around the card and the heatsink.

I think it'll work.. barely.

I have the Zalman BR123 fan mount adapter in my 610/620 case, which protrudes above the PCI slot screw mounts a bit.

It does bulge the case top slightly but it's barely noticeable from the outside. Based on that, I think your card will fit. Worst case you might have to sand or dremel down the screw tops a bit.

Thanks for the replies.

The airflow might become a problem since I'm trying to minimize the amount of fans in the case. Ideally it would just be a 120mm Fortron PSU and a 80mm/92mm fan on the Thermalright SP-94.
Maybe I'll get the parts first and see how loud the stock cooling is on the ATi card (haven't decided which card yet though), if it's bearable then I'll pass on the Zalman.

Fabool -- the stock cooling is noisy. You can probably get this cooler in the EU... http://forums.silentpcreview.com/viewtopic.php?t=7718

Yep, it's available here ina couple of stores already.

I was under the impression that it.. well sucked, but the preview has managed to peak my interest in this thing again. It would at least fit in the case without problems and the loss of one PCI isn't a problem for me.
It doesn't look very nice but I probably won't be looking into the case very much so it doesn't matter if it performs as advertised.

I'll have to look into this further before deciding, quite tempting for its price though.

Edit: Actually, it seems that the Arctic cooling and Zalman ZM80C-HP have the same price here which is 29.90€
