Hey,
Has anyone mounted Zahlman hard drive heat pipes in one of the Antec Sideways drive mounting cases (Sonata, or the new black-quiet one)?
1 - does it fit?
2 - does it improve drive cooling measurably?
Thanks,
Zahlman hard drive heatpipes in the Antec Sideway Drive case

They're designed to install in a 5.25inch bay.
I suppose it MIGHT be possible to install it into the 3.5inch bays of the Sonata - there's space on the side (between the HDD and drive rail) and also possibly height space as well. However, I think its quite likely that you would lose the use of the drive rails because it the drive cage holding the HDD is at a different height. In the picture there's a height difference between the blue of the Zalman and the black HDD.
I suppose you might be able to use longer screws though.
Problem, its impossible to know for certain if it will fit unless you have tried it or know someone who has. [/img]

This will not fit in the sideways Sonata drive bays. There's not near enough room.davidstone28 wrote:They're designed to install in a 5.25inch bay.

Thanks for the pic and the explanation - makes a lot more sense now.
It's a shame that they go in the 5.25 bays, most cases provide the best cooling air to the internal 3.5s down low - you can always tape up the lower vents and poke holes in the removable 5.25 slot covers, but it tends to look tacky.
