System exploding

Post by dukla2000 » Mon May 29, 2006 2:25 pm

I have upgraded the kernel on 1 of my boxen today and decided to give fahlog.txt its annual service. A bit disconcerted to find (2/3rds of way down)

Code: Select all

[14:35:10] Folding@Home Gromacs 3.3 Core
[14:35:10] Version 1.70 (February 3, 2006)
[14:35:10]
[14:35:10] Preparing to commence simulation
[14:35:10] - Looking at optimizations...
[14:35:11] - Files status OK
[14:35:15] - Expanded 3605434 -> 16858811 (decompressed 467.5 percent)
[14:35:17]
[14:35:17] Project: 1487 (Run 0, Clone 40, Gen 1)
[14:35:17]
[14:35:17] Assembly optimizations on if available.
[14:35:17] Entering M.D.
[14:35:43] (Starting from checkpoint)
[14:35:43] Protein: p1487_DPPC_DOPC_CHOL
[14:35:43] Writing local files
[14:35:43] Completed 935730 out of 1000000 steps (93%)
[14:35:46] Extra 3DNow boost OK.
[14:35:46] Extra SSE boost OK.
[14:35:47] Warning: 1-4 interaction between and at distance 0.000 which is larger than the 1-4 table size 1.806 nm
[14:35:47] These are ignored for the rest of the simulation
[14:35:47] This usually means your system is exploding,
[14:35:47] if not, you should increase table-extension in your mdp file
[14:50:45] Timered checkpoint triggered.
[15:05:46] Timered checkpoint triggered.
[15:20:55] Timered checkpoint triggered.
[15:35:54] Timered checkpoint triggered.
[15:47:08] Writing local files
[15:47:08] Completed 940000 out of 1000000 steps (94%)
As it has been logging this after each start I am not completely distressed, but as this WU has been running for 2 weeks and it about for finish I am anxious to notch up all 1161 points.

My guess is there is actually nothing I can do except enjoy the display if she blows? (And that the problem is in the WU parameters and not my PC?)

Hi Dukla,
there was a discussion about this over at FAH forums recently, though I think it may have been in the locked Beta-Testers forum, IIRC it basically doesn't really 'mean' anything...

Prolly just scientist humour...

[scene]
"This usually means your system is exploding" typed into Google by Stanford scientists...
3000 results returned...
Half a dozen scientists rolling around in fits of laughter, after some sake on Monday night, crying "Look!! we got another 320 hits today on that old 'Exploding' one...   "
(I'm thinking kinda like 'Smash Martians/robots'... )

[/scene]

:D

Regards
Pete
