My son's computer is still Folding away - we are closing in on 10 million points! My lowly 2008 iMac is relegated to running SETI@Home ...

Did FAH have servers down yesterday? Things were not moving, and Extreme Overclocking website for FAH stats did not update all Sunday.

You came close to be the only post in 2014. Boy, all of SPRC has slowed considerably. :(

So Neil, is that your GTX 970 that is giving about 77K PPD? Were you expecting more? I would have.

Not when my 16 yo son is gaming on it whenever he can ... It's his machine, so I get to Fold when he sleeps, and when he's in school. Given a full 24 hours it can do 230-300K+ depending on the work units.

Well where are the so called bonus points? It takes me 9 hours to finish a WU for 5757 points. Neil finishes one in just 3 hours with the same points. On the other hand bonus points really skew the PPW equation. What's a folder to do?

Those work units are tough - that is by far the lowest PPD of the current work units they are dispensing. I think that whatever they are using to determine the points is very different than the Folding machine we have.

Yeah, they're miserable, but why don't you get more bonus points for finishing them in 1/3rd the time it takes me to complete 1?

And I got 2 in a row. Good times :!:

I am not sure about any bonus points? I thought that we got points for WU's and if we can complete them more quickly, then that is the bonus?

Yes, that's the bonus.

I hate Wi-Fi. Twice now my pc was waiting for more work because the connection went down. And I always have 5 bars.
I HATE WI-FI! I've lost close to 24 hours.

I smile as Kittle has blown my doors off. I don't mind at all. You go Kittle.

I do mind the team has dropped 2 places recently to the 59 slot.

And Cordis, you need to get back above 600K a day, I'm tired of carrying you.

Can't do that here, I'm just renting a room.

I'm on my 5th 5757 unit in a row.

It is Folding@Home which is a distributed computing project that is looking at folding proteins. These are related to many different things, and by finding out something (hopefully) about how they fold, this then can be used to help with many different medical issues.

https://folding.stanford.edu/

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Folding@home

https://folding.stanford.edu/home/the-software/

It runs best on nVidia video cards, actually, but most CPU's also work.

Heh, just barely in the top 100. I used to be up in the 80s, but I've slid. I should get another video card, but meh, maybe wait until fall.

Not until they go to a 22, or even 18nm, manufacturing process.

My son games on his computer, when he is not at school or work - so his machines output suffers over the weekend. He just got a job starting last week, so Monday through Thursday, the output will go up by an additional 3-4 hours of Folding!
