Where do you get the points per WU from?
Ari
How did you find out the WU is only worth 1523? When I looked at the project information for 2609 from the link in my personal summary, I only saw that it was a new project, and that more news would be coming up.
I've got one now, I hope it is better than 2608, where I had a core segfault at 62%, after about 12 hours, then (because I was running the SMP as a linux service), started up the same WU and ran for another 10 hours before I noticed it.
Regards
Mike

Here is the SPRC Link
http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/ ... s=&t=31574
and you can click on a name and get very specific
http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/ ... s=&u=34735
Here I can see the last 24 hours broken down in a 3 hour segments. Now if I complete 2 WUs into a 3 hour period I may not be sure of the points for each, but usually I have only one.
I went to Standford's page to find out what your rank is, I could have done it at the same site as above, but they display members 100 per page, whereas Standford puts an entire team on 1 page which makes it easier to find.
http://fah-web.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/mai ... mnum=31574
Dutchmm current rank is 190, so now I go back and see where you are and how you're doing. You're on page 2 of the team list on OC link:
http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/ ... =31574&p=2
Here we see you moved up 33 positions in rank in just one week. Very good. As you get closer to the top that will inevitably slow down. You're personal page is here:
http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/ ... =&u=280294
I have 2 dual cores folding both SMP. Just from experience I have a good idea which one they are working on. My AMD will take a checkpoint every 23 minutes with a 1760, but takes a checkpoint every 31 minutes with a 1538 Gromacs core, which means it takes more than 50 hours or 2 days to complete a Gromac. I suppose I could scroll back to the beginning messages on my pc and see the word Gromacs, that's too much trouble.

Hmm, that's interesting
Are both your dual cores running the same processor?
My E6750 (with an O/C to 3.2) ran the last WU from 2605 at 11:16 per checkpoint, and in the 2609 WU it is running now, the checkpoints are taking 11:21. So I expect to finish this WU in 18 hours 55, compared with 18 hours 48 for the 2605 WU.
It seems odd that there are 240 points fewer for something that takes longer The other machine, which is a server I manage at work, only has a single AMD 4000+ CPU, so it struggles to finish a 174 pointer every other day.
Incidentally, I found something that will help you see which WUs produce which score.
http://fah-web.stanford.edu/psummary.html
This list will allow you to see how the total of points for a 3 hour period breaks down between the 2 WUs you finished.
And yes, I had noticed that the number of inactive folders seems to thin out as you climb up the pages. I shall have to wait until I can repair the old machine I just replaced to get another boost for my PPD.

No, I have an E6400 running at 2.67GHz and a X2 4000+ running at 2.4GHz.Dutchmm wrote:Are both your dual cores running the same processor?

The AMD has Ubuntu for an OS, so when I need to run SMP I must start FAH each time with the -SMP flag, otherwise it will run a plain old single version of FAH, and then like you that machine will struggle to complete a WU of 200 points or less every other day. It could run two instances of that, but then twice nothing is still nothing.
I think Gromacs always had fewer points, even in the single CPU version. Don't know why.
Interesting link, thanks. I stopped folding with my Pentium III because the last WU it got took over 2 weeks at less than 50 points per day. I would allow it to run if I could be sure it would only do those tiny WUs, less than 100 points each, but I have no way to specify that, as far as I know.

I'm enjoying my first appearance on the SPCR top 20, but feeling a bit depressed by the team's progress down the board!
Is this something that happened when the PS3s hit the scene, or is something else to blame?
I wish F@H had sorted out a properly scalable SMP client sooner; for a while recently I had access to a shiny new 98-core Xeon linux box for climate modelling research... bet that would have bumped the points a bit.

Yeah I used finstall once on my linux box, but it didn't seem to work properly. Have just used the normal executable since then. And no, I definitely have better things to do than babysit 25 F@H installations!
The machine's a heck of a power hog... it's a big rack with 49 dual core blades and a load of gigabit switches... 196G RAM and a huge RAID store. Has its own air conditioning system and everything. Pretty noisy up close, but arguably silent when you consider that those using it are generally miles away!

I don't think my power meter would like this thing.adam_mccullough wrote:Yeah I used finstall once on my linux box, but it didn't seem to work properly. Have just used the normal executable since then. And no, I definitely have better things to do than babysit 25 F@H installations!

How soon can all 49 blades be folding for us?
I'd love to see the power drop if you could switch all your cores to 65nm cores, or ever better, future 45nm cores.

Hey! I resemble that remark!peteamer wrote:It is for the folding forum... but zyzzyxs' 'What are you listening to now' holds the record for SPCR.DMyth! wrote:is this officially the longest SPCR thread yet?
As for me and Folding, I unfortunately stopped quite awhile ago. Beginning of this last summer when it was getting just too darn hot in the computer room, didn't need to run the A/C more than needed. Then just never picked it back up. That, and I've really taken to low power usage, so the computer gets turned off most of the time now. Only on for 3-5 hours/day usually. Funny how that came about after I started paying my own utility bills. I am setting up a MythTV linux box though, and it will be on 24/7, so maybe I'll get Folding again on that one. Will be an underclocked Athlon 1400 though, so won't be much.
Should we change the thread name ...
Looks like we are about to be overtaken again But as long as we are going backwards, we get to keep trying for the longest thread distinction.

I was in the lab where that blade cluster lives on Friday... it's not being used at the minute. Not even switched on.
I made a tentative remark about finding something useful to run on it, to maybe contribute to a project like f@h and the guys in the lab just gave me a look that said "Do you have ANY IDEA what that thing does to our power bills?"
Oh well...
(PS... #3! Woo!)

TRC-13 passed 5 million points a little while ago.
Neil will be in the 1 million club in about a week.
Congrats to Plissken who just passed 500,000 points.
David G, Teknerd, and Kansakiller are right behind him.
Bolek is about to do 400,000.
Webfire is about to break 300,000.
Dryfire and FGump are about to cross the 200,000 line.
Run Forest run!
4 just entered the 100,000 milestone, congrats to
Dutchmm, Cruiserman, Kurt-spare, and Mr Plow King as well.

What a gap for moving up the ladder. The first of many large point gaps.
I will pass Equiquay at 404,000 points. The last person I passed was about 353,000 points. I won't be passing Viking or Bolek, so I need to earn 51,000+ points to move +1 in the ranks.
I would also like to thank Wgragg who has 1.3 million points, but even more impressive, this folder has completed
16,000 work units.
