No - just that I joined

Actually I doubt it is personal! But when I started 4 days ago I figured getting into the top 20 SPCR producers was an easy target, now I am not so sure. And I also wanted to lay down the challenge that I would shortly pass you Radeonman, but wow, what the hell are you cooking with? Possibly only 1 processor but churning more points a week than me?

Team stats: #120 with 74 members!

Hello:

The teams stats page says that our team is #120, with 74 members, while the signatures say #118...the good news is we are moving quickly towards our goal of breaking into the top 100! :D

A word of encouragement to those who seem to be sitting still with 1 unit: the scores for the work units vary widely, and also sometimes the servers are slow at showing the new units -- and I know it's frustrating, but our strength comes from our numbers as much as from members with "farms". I hope everybody keeps 'em folding and keeps contributing!

Radeonman: discounting Rusty's "supercomputer" (heh), I'm the guy to overtake if you're aiming to be "the biggest 1 processor man". I'm folding on a P4 2.4GHz, and I've heard that comparable Athlons outfold P4s, so with your XP2400/nForce2 setup it's very likely that given enough time, you can eventually catch up to my head start.

But I'm not giving my position up without a fight! :)

Ooooh, so we finally have a one on one contest!? :P

Have admit a bit of competitiveness bit me a few days ago & I enlisted a couple of testbench rigs just to see if they could

1) help push SPCR past 100 before May 1 -- (afraid not, too little, too late; maybe Rusty can come through with hacked admin rights to the bank of xeon machines he was eyeing http://forums.silentpcreview.com/viewto ... ght=#17736  )

2) change my standing in the rankings, which actually happened, passed PerArne overnight. Fredster's in my sights now, but he's 20 WU ahead, so it could be a while. :? I wonder how many more systems I can rig up before any change in the electric bill bill will be noticed by she-who-isn't-silence-giddy.

... However, I seem to have hit this wall around 30th place...
and I was running from you then all these people with 5-7 processors show up

Actually, I have two fast CPU's and one slower one

Hello:
Radeonman wrote:Plus, I plan on (eventually) getting an Nforce2 and XP2400. Then I'll have 1 fast processor.. compared to your 4. I'll just have to aim for being the biggest 1 processor man out there.
The reason (I think) that my stats show me as having four processors, is that for a brief time, I ran the Linux F@H client on my dual-boot machine. In reality, I have two fast CPU's (2gHz each) and one slower one (Athlon 700). Also, I sometimes run SETI on one of the fast machines, so on average I have two fast machines running F@H CLI clients. I think my stats should drop back to showing three in a few days...

Now, if the 18 or so members with 1 or 2 WU completed could all keep going, that would really start moving us up through the ranks!

115! And our name turned GREEN for exceptional production on this site!

Personally, I can't wait to kick down Cornell at 104 (I went to the state school equivalent 45 miles away)

We are FLYING!

Hello:

Like I wrote above, we need as many active members as we can get: according to the Team Stats page, we have 57 active members out of 74, or 77% -- which is higher than just about anybody! If we got our active members up to 65 or 70 (say 90-95%?), that would be totally awesome. :D

http://www.statsman.org/folding2stats/html/

We are producing 13,900+ points this week! Which is higher than the next FIVE teams COMBINED and higher than any team until number 80! (Folding@Maylaysia) Above them, you get all the way to #69 (www.overclocking.dk) to get a higher score/week! Holy shewow!

We are flying!

So, come on everybody! Here's hoping we get 100 active members.

rpc180 -- great stats page, and a curious motivation!

I totally support Neil's message: it looks like we can really move smartly up the ranks, but we still need more people. The past week's 13,000+ points is great, but to get past 50, I think we're going to have to hit at least 20,000 points/week steady.

For those who have been reluctant to join in because of concerns about the software, don't bother with the yikyak here about the different variants. Just download the simple windows version, turn off the graphical stuff, leave it minimized, and just go on using your PC as you ever did.

This is what I've done, and I have to say I am totally impressed at how smart the folding@home windows software is. It never gets in the way of my work, the priority must be set quite low. Yet the CPU is always at 100% -- any unused cycles are always in use.

It is actually a very good test for stability of undervolted, low airflow quiet systems. It forced me to pay attention to my main machine due to uncomfortably high temps -- turns out dust was a major culprit, and a HS clip that had loosened over time. Both potential disastor I might not have caught without the folding@home running.

In terms of electric consumption, I checked 2 of my folding PCs, a 1.8 P4 and a 2.5 P4 -- the first was drawing 91W AC and the second 98W. The total AC power draw of all 4 systems folding right now is ~same as a single big tv. But a lot less than a typical electric clothes dryer (2500W!)

Anyway, all this is to say there are many good reasons to pitch in here, it's challenging, kinda fun and the exposure may help SPCR get better for everyone.

I should be upgrading to an Athlon XP 1700+ within the next few days, so hopefully I'll be turning in more units, if my system can stay cool that is :)

Some more stats: SPCR is #45 in week totals and #38 in daily totals. So at the current rate and given an infinite amount of time, SPCR would not get higher then rouglhy #38. Btw, 1 1/2 week ago both were around #55.

I have admin rights here at work.. it's getting more and more tempting..

Again some more stats: This page shows the stats for the team on #100, and it says SPCR is gonna overtake them on may the 1st 8pm.

Btw, somebody named TRC-13 joined the folding perhaps only 2 weeks ago and he is already on #14, racing up the ranks. Every time I look he has more processors, right now he has 12 running. And he now has the highest day total of the whole team.
Glad he joined us and I hope he finds a few more PC's to use. :D

Edit: 3 hours later and it's now May 1 3pm

Yep, I see 2 people (bhk and TRC-13) coming to take my crown. Bring it on! Rusty075 had me for awhile, but he seems to have dropped off some. What's up Rusty075? 8)

What was original estimated date of entering the top 100? Sometime in late summer? 2 months ... nice deal! Somehow we got to advertise that the underclocked and silent beat out a ton of deaf hardware overclocking sites...

Yeah, when we first aimed at the top 100, the stats.org page estimated end of July, I think.

Alas, the evils of my education are taking their toll on the folding. The render farm has now begun to do what it was built to do - Rendering. You're going to see very little production out of me for next few weeks as the machines crank away on my animation. They're still running F@H as a service, so they'll do alittle work while they wait for the server to send them a new frame to do every 30 minutes or so.

But just wait, the Rusty folding guggernaut will rise again!

Unfortunately no. The rendering software that I use is different from what the school has. Although that would definetely speed things along.

Mayday, mayday

OK, I'll admit to keeping an eye on the stats. At the moment, SPCR is #107. According to http://forums.extremeoverclocking.com/folding/ we will break into the top 100 on May 1 at 9AM. Happy Mayday, everyone.

Hmmm, there might be one more box to commandeer in the lab...

OK, I'll bite. Are you extrapolating that yourself using their numbers, or is there a tool somewhere that I'm missing? :|

I looked at the immediate neighborhood and noticed no other team has similar point gain to SPCR or ComputerScience@SMSU. Thus, ComputerScience@SMSU is unlikely to materially move position in the next few days. The details for that team show that SPCR is scheduled to overtake it at the appointed day/hour (see http://forums.extremeoverclocking.com/f ... 11756.html ).

YMMV, of course.

by my count, there is a reasonable chance that we make it into the top 100 tomorrow. We've moved up 5 places today, and there's still some time to go. At over 3500 points in the last 24 hours, assuming the same gain over the next 24 hours, that will put us over 60,000- in the top 100.

I like that page, it brings the school's brand spanking new emacs to their knees. My computer is well over a year old and handles it without thought... and I'm willing to bet at well under $1000 my computer cost a good deal less too :)

and let me tell you, SPCR member hell will be in a similar computer lab....
