9 more for the effort!

I convinced my boss to let me use our backup servers to fold, so add 9 more folding boxes to the cause! They're mostly dual PIII 550's so it's slow going but hey.

BTW - the service option of the console client doesn't really make it a service, it just causes that "wait, close, or cancel" box to pop up if you try to log out. So, for unattended folding I used the srvany utility from the NT resource kit to turn them into real services. It worked! I've also got a perl script to poll the unitinfo.txt and tell me how they're doing. 8)

Nice work fredster. Soon all computers will be under our control, and world folding domination will be complete.

Hmm, looks like we have a dark horse coming up from behind :)

I'm barely maintaining my lead, Rusty should overtake me today I would think.

I gotta get that XP1700 up and running, the freaking 1.2 GB drive on it is sooooo loud though! Like a buzzsaw.

Ouch, 17 processors, and he's right about to overtake me. I bow down to bkh's superior GHz. :)

17 processors is quite impressive indeed. I thought my 13 was bad! Speaking of which, does anyone know why the stats would only show me as having 1 processor active? I'm obviously getting credit for their units since I turned in 1400 points worth last week

I checked and they've all got the proper user name and team number, and all have unique machine ID's. I dunno. It does look kinda neat to be cranking out all those units with just "1" machine. People are going to think I bought a Cray.

Could it be an IP address issue? All my machines are hidden behind a firewall, router and switch.

Did you download the client individually each time, or use the same install? I think that has something to do with it.

How do you set unique machine IDs? Mine are all 1.

Oops, I meant User ID, not machine ID. Each one has a unique User ID, which is assigned by the server.

Only my first machine got a User ID - the others requested but there is no response. Th IP address may be a factor - all my boxes will appear as the identical IP address.

Yoohoo - my first WU has just come up in the reports. (A shame I couldn't enter the team rank at 69 instead of 59, but hopefully make the top 20 sometime.)

you'll have to install the client seperately on each machine. copying the folder just wouldn't do... that's what i heard.

Riff they were all installed seperately, and they are reporting units that are showing up just like they should. But the stats still show me as having 1 processor.

1400 points a week from 1 processor  Not too shabby.

heheehe.. not at all :D

well, even if you are completely sure that all of them have unique user id's... it wont hurt if you delete the userID registry entry, and so the client would just request for another. changing the config file or redoing the CLI with a -config switch won't do. you'll have open regedit and go here: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\PandeGroup.

also... um they do have to be running for a week for them to register... why not give it some more time? but i don't think that would apply in your case.

i dont think it's a lan issue... since whenever your WU is completed, it is sent along with your UserName, TeamNumber, UserID and your MachineID.

if all else fails... ask the experts at forum.folding-community.org. vijay pande himself frequents that forum.

Rusty - this processor thing is confusing. I changed my second box (installed from same download, but halfway through first WU changed MachineID to 2 in client.cfg). Now my stats are showing 3 processors, and the second machine suddenly got its own userID (but I can't find in the log when that was). In actual fact only 2 of my boxes have completed work (needless to say the 2 AMDs - my Pentium 3 mobile is pathetic: even at 1.2G it has yet to complete a WU in nearly 48 hours, compared to the Thunderbird 1.4 coughing about every 24). But bottom line I dont know how they rank me for 3 processors: unless my second box is counting twice, once with the default instal (machineID=1) and again for doing a WU with machineID=2.

machineID is for multiprocessor systems (1 to 4), so i'd say the client is assuming, since machine ID is 2, that you have two processors in one box, and therefore showing that you have three processors in two boxes.

Rusty: Curiously. I started running two copies on my P4 3.06 (nominally semi-dual processor). Each claims a machine ID of 1. This may be because there are not two physically seperate CPUs, or the F@H servers have not wized up to my conceit, or who knows. I couldn't find appropriate info at the F@H site. However, I'm not worried.

that figures - multiprocessor, thanks! Wherever I saw the edit for machineID I did see a syntax limit of 1-4, but was too dumb to understand ...
