So, we know the truth... we have one, regardless of points! you have to suffer the cruel torture of computer noise, while all my folding machine gives off is the occasional seek click... and I won't hear that once I get everything back in my case.

I was just curious upon the "original" mission listed in this thread. Has any SPCR memebr had any luck actually "bringing over" anyone for the cause?

(Yes, I know - I am still not contributing. But no need to enlist me - the rig is just taking longer than expected to build.) :(

How about a little. "SilentPCreview needs you banner" on the main home page that links to directions on joining the team. Make it colorful to attract the eyes to it.

How about a car wash so Rusty can get his farm going again?

Already on board with Monster. Unfortunately there's also 10000 other grads out there looking for entry level architecture jobs. And the building sector economy isn't exactly sunny.

Monster can help? No
Dice? No
Hotjobs? No

Jobs are leaving this country so fast you can't believe it.
All this just so CEO can cash in their stock options.

Rusty,

Do not suppose you speak Japanese?

The Japan economy still sucks, but the government is doing allot of supporting of construction over here as they want it to absorb allot of jobs that are being lost to bankruptcies in the finance sector. Japanese companies love the "token" foreign guy that speaks Japanese and English. They even pay a premium salary for them, or so I am told, as I do not work in the industry.

Yeah, original mission. You see, it's darned tricky figuring out where you would even write a letter. Seriously, if someone can forward me the link to a folding team's forum (I'll settle for an email) I will write letters. I have no doubt that I could bring people over. It's just the figuring out who that has got me stumped.

Ok, trying to contact other teams will be tedious but straight-forward (if a little hit-or-miss). The key is that some (many?) teams have a Web site associated with them. My initial instructions:

    1. Go to folding.extremeoverclocking.com (since it lists the first 1000 teams)
    2. Pick out a candidate team, noting the exact team name or number
    3. Go to folding.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/searchteamstats
    4. Search for the candidate team's name or number
    5. Click on the search results to get to that team's stats page
    6. Check for an associated web site in the top grey box
    7. Follow the link and see if they have a contact address or board
    8. Repeat from 1

A quick and random check of a few teams in the 900's show that about half have Web sites. Of those, several go into the ether. I haven't pursued the entire 8 steps with any team, but it should work.

Yes, thats true... You guys probably would not get any takers. The problem, in my opinion, with your (as we and others call it) 'pimping' scheme is that teams with forums tend to be rather active, and not really suited to being 'pimped'. In other projects (such as S@H) it is easier to get the individual e-mail addresses and email the prospective members directly. But not in F@H. You guys might have better luck pimping in other places, such as non-TEAM forums devoted to F@H, or in other places altogether (such as forming foldingathome channels on various IRC networks; like we did on EFNet).

Good luck with the recruitment drive.

Well, I used to fold for SpyMac but then I soured on the whole Macintosh experience and went to the "Dark side" for good.
Nobody recruited me. I came of my own free will. 8)

I don't think asking the Knights for anything is a good idea.

You're liable to be flatulated to death.

We tried the identical process in G@H. We busted our ass doing it and never gained a single new member  .

Hmmm, that statement coming from you has particular impact!

OTOH, just as SPCR may have sparked a tad bit of interest in "Silent Computing" with some of the KWSN, perhaps recruiting for F@H should simply be a byproduct as our own Evangelists spread the Quiet Word with pointers to SPCR's site. I kinda like the idea of just letting other folks know what the obsession is all about (at least those who still have any hearing left after the screaming Deltas). If they want to fold, too, great.

My general wish is for a quieter (read less human-created noise) world. I'm working on my home system, but can't do much about the darn humming power transformer across the street or the fire station three blocks away or wretched barky dogs left alone so much of the time in a neighbor's yard.
